With the two kickers in this class, it didn't have much hope of an outstanding rating to begin with. I would guess that Golic will go back to a 3* after his Sr. season, and if he doesn't I don't really care.....the rating are what they are, me getting all wadded-up over them won't change them

I don't think anyone loses sleep over rankings but I think everyone was excited when we had the #2 class last year. I also think that having a top 10 class can be another recruiting tool. That being said, recruiting rankings don't mean wins....though a lot on here are quick to point out that last years senior class was the lowest rated recruiting class in 40 years and that led to the 3 win season.

I absolutely give a s**t about rankings as they are proving to be more and more accurate. All you have to do it look at the teams that have had success in receruiting over the past few years to view how well it translates on the field. At a deeper level, look at all of the individual players that are ranked as 4 and 5 star players and how that translates to their success on the field. Vince Young - 5 star, Tim Tebow - 5 star, Reggie Bush - 5 Star, Percy Harvin - 5 star. Like it or not, the more 5 star players brought in, the more wins, individual accolades (All-Americas, Heisman, etc.), etc. Those who claim not to care about rankings typically root for a team that isn't bringing in 4 and 5 star players. Don't believe me, take a look back at this board and see how giddy we all were when Floyd and Crist were awarded a 5th star.

The "I don't give a flip about stars" argument is for people who have resigned themselves to not getting 4 and 5-star players.

There's a huge difference bewteen bemoaning the fact that you are not getting enough 4 and 5 star guys and crying about some kid being awarded a 2 instead of a 3 star. The latter is very gay, the former a valid concern which we fortunetely don't have to deal with anymore

I think the thing is Colin, no class is full of Bush's, Young's, Etc.. you are going to get some 3*s and maybe a couple 2* on NR's. The 5*s and 4*s are VERY Important, But as long as we get some 4's and 5's and only a couple low guys I'm ok.

All I'm saying is that I look at our direct competition for a national title and who they recruit and I see three-star at its limit. Gun fights with blanks don't usually end well.

We only care when we're in the hunt for #1 overall, and because we want bragging rights, not to mention having pride on the line.

I'd like to say I could care less, but I do just a little. Otherwise, I wouldn't give a hoot if we got #1 vs. #117. But I've made my fair share of "but Alabama's class wont qualify!" comments, so I can't say I don't care at all.

back to the subject. we all know this indiidual, although he comes from good pedigree, is an exception in the eyes of the university. he gets the nod. i'm glad they didn't just hand out stars because of a name. now, the ball is in his court, and if he is anything like his father or his uncle, he will come out and prove the naysayers wrong. otherwise, it will be an "i told you so". so, just go out there and kick some butt....................

golic isn't the fastest, biggest, strongest or the most talented but i think he's a solid player. strength and size won't be a probblem, i mean he's going into his senior year in HS and probbly isn't on a college weight trainning program yet. however golic does have a good pair of hands and he's a lot more athletic then i think a lot of the recruiting services give him credit for, but don't get me wrong he's going to have to battle real hard to get playing time with ragone, rudolph and fauria around.

i understand caring about each individual player's ranking. It gives you an idea at least of what some "educated" people think about the player's ability. But team rankings are retarded. A USC class that has 15 kids, but like 7 5stars shouldn't be "rated" below a class of 32 kids at Alabama. I wouldn't sacrifice taking a good kicker, just to jump from #11 to #10 on rivals team rankings. It's retarded.

Fill needs with players you expect to play and play well. That's why i dont really care to hear anything about a couple player's bringing down our average stars per player or overall team rankigns. How good a recruiting class is is a matter of feel for how well you addressed needs and stocked your team. ***k the nerdy point system.

Let’s call a spade a spade. Golic is a celebrity, alum’s son. I am not saying he doesn't deserve to go to ND but if his last name wasn't Golic, would he have been a target of the football staff?

That in mind, are we really surprised that he wasn't rated any higher?
