Posted June 18, 200816 yr Any ideas on numbers for this year? We have 9 booked so who else can we take?
June 18, 200816 yr We can take as many as 24 I believe with Nagel transfering, but that would mean no 5th years so I would say 21-22
June 18, 200816 yr Who would consider coming back for a 5th year? Could Bruton and Sharpley? And anyone else?

June 18, 200816 yr After this season Bruton will have no eligibility left remaining. The only people I can fathum getting a 5th year granted is McCarthy, Schwapp, and MAYBE Sharpley.
June 18, 200816 yr Who would consider coming back for a 5th year? Could Bruton and Sharpley? And anyone else? Just a guess, but I would think that Sharpley will go and play baseball, his future is definetly is not in the NFL, so I think if he is going to play a sport for a living, I think its going to be baseball.
June 18, 200816 yr Unless they pickup a QB recruit for the 09 season, I would think that they would really want Sharpley to stay for a 5th year. I wouldn't want to see only 2 QBs on scholarship in 09. Has Sharpley even been drafted in baseball yet?

The HS offense that his school ran was run the ball they didnt pass so thats why montana didnt start
June 18, 200816 yr Dont rule out Montana. He is only a walk on because he is unproven. The HS offense that his school ran was run the ball they didnt pass so thats why montana didnt start DUDE...come on...he didn't even start in high school and is a walk-on... You are acting as if it was his father re-enrolling classes...give the kid a break. And we should land a lower rated prospect at QB this class...expect a 3 star to sign when the season gets further along... Sean Schrader / Nick Raven would be nice additions....
June 18, 200816 yr Not to discount Montana in the least but I would be much more comfortable with a 5th year senior as a "backup" (or 3rd string) then a kid with hardly any experience even in HS regardless of his last name. Mind you my name is not Weiss nor would anyone on the ND staff ask for my opinion but I think most would agree with that idea. Now all of this is out the window if Sharpley has been or is drafted to play baseball. Obviously, the smart move would be for him to go play baseball and get a paycheck. Any way it goes, it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
June 18, 200816 yr Nobody would be mentioning Nate if it weren't for his last name. If you just heard it was some 6'5" HS QB who worked with that QB guru but was 3rd string at Mater Dei, we wouldn't look up from eating our bowl of fruit loops. Until he proves something, he's just a walk on with upside, period. As for the overall #'s game, we're probably aiming for 21-22. Hard to tell if there will be any more transfers (after having six since spring ball of last year, it'd probably be delusional to think it won't happen again between now and LOI day '09), and there aren't many viable 5th years to pick from, so its a rougher guesstimate than we had at the same time last year. I also think Charlie is trying to avoid having to hold up the stop sign in front of another Jeremy Brown this year, only to have more than enough space for him a couple months later.
June 18, 200816 yr I believe CW stated we were looking at 18 for this year (around the LOI signing day). Since that time, I know we have lost one.....maybe 2? My guess is 20...possibly 21.
June 18, 200816 yr I think 20 or 21 is the number. I am SEMI considered about the Qb position. I do agree that Sharpley may leave and if thats the case we will have Clausen, Crist and Montana. Which is fine. But like other posters said bringing in another QB if we dont land some of our other prospects late wouldnt be a bad idea. Because there is no gaurentee that we can bring in an elite QB in the class of 2010.

Did you just mention the 2010 class...settle down big boy...we aren't through training camp for the 08-09 season...don't get me too rattled this early.
June 19, 200816 yr haha. I know after reading it it sounds alittle crazy. But I remember how we felt with such "QB depth" not to long ago, and now the "QB Depth" is no where near what it used to be.

We can also get a couple of early commits to count back. AS for the QB debate, charlie will have one more for 09 by mid high school season. I think he is pretty happy where he is, and the needs are more upfront on both sides of the ball. you win with big fast mean guys up front.
