The ND coaches have stopped at Cathedral High School to visit Kyle Koehne a OL firm IN. Anyone have any info on the guy and if anyone has seen him play?

Scout has him rated as a top 20 Offensive Tackle and he is a local kid who has said that he is waiting for a Notre Dame offer before the start of the season or he committs to Indiana over Iowa, NC State and Cincinnati (who recruits the heck out of Indy)...

6'6 285+ who was an all combine performer this summer....Good size and athleticism and plays for a perennial powerhouse in Indianapolis.

Anybody know why we aren't as interested in him as we are in Schofield who appears to be taking every visit offered...I think Schofield is mulling over a visit to Northwestern...which would be a real suprise for us to compete with Northwestern for a prospect, especially one who lives about 20 minutes from their campus.

Personally, I would take them both...but Koehne is an easier get and a higher rated prospect, which is my confusion...

Of course, there is still the big guy lurking on the board, so we if he goes Irish, than this conversation is mute.

i think he did himself a disservice by letting ND know he'd wait for an ND offer then commit upon getting it. That makes him feel like a safety to the staff. Essentially, you're saying we can go hard after the other guys and if we're worried about our status with them we could always just land this kid immediately.

Kid should have played the game a little better, though it's hard not to wear your heart on your sleeve. Not saying it definately would ahve changed anything either.

An old article, but I just signed up for Scout online (premium) and it looks like we are waiting for his first game tape to come into our coaches office before we make him an offer...

Personally, I hope the kid is patient with us, as I have said from the beginning, he is all irish if we offer him, but he may want the security of an offer/committ before the start of his senior season...

I think your right, the staff is waiting on tape of him in game action. I believe that he camped recently at ND and Latina/Weis/ND let him know that his offer was going to come down to his game tapes.

Well, here's to hoping the kid has good film...Seriously, they couldn't get enough of an evaluation at their own camp to see if they wanted to bring him in ??? Sounds like we have hope for Xavier Nixon AND LaLota if that is the case.

Yeah, I would have thought you could have used his Jr year tape and evaluations from the camp, but what do I know....

just b/c some guys camp well doesnt mean it translates to the field. he could've been slow off the ball during his jr year, but looked faster in the camp, so they want to see how he looks in pads his senior year. CW & staff are the pros here, not us. We wouldnt know half the stuff they have to do in evaluating players top to bottom.

Ziggy has a very good point. There are many many people that "camp" well, but their game tapes aren't as impressive (and vise versa). It is very common now-a-days to train for camps so you can increase your measurables, but the training doesn't necessarily mean squat for actually playing football.

My worthless thought is that the staff liked what they saw, and want to see how the things he showed at camp translate to the field.

I hope we can get him plus Nixon to fill out the tackle spots, and have Bullard and Watt for the guard positions. I know I may be dreaming, but it is a sweet dream

I don't think thats dreaming at all. The dream was Shrive, Nixon, Bullard, Ward, and maybe Schofield. We've already taken a few hits to our "ideal" OL class; 2 guards and 2 tackles would fit the bill for my expectations given how big a priority OL is for ND.

That said though, Koehne is pretty much Irish if offered (and not the kind like Patrick Ward supposedly was). Bullard is already on board. With Watt, OSU continues to fill up at a blistering pace, and from what I've recently read Longo could be coming in as a guard, so that may indicate what will happen with Chris (really depends on who you listen to). And as of now, we're doing just about as well as we can expect with Nixon; he's slated for an official visit, he's got parents with a disciplined background, and they're going to be significantly involved in his decision process.

Nixon is the key. He is a MUST GET for ND, and I think that phrase is often over used, so I don't like to repeat it very often myself.

The kid is 6"7'' 300 ish. Has made it clear he wants to play at ND. One of top offensive line guys in midwest. Has had some "sportscenter" type plays here on Indy sports. Plays for Cathedral high school in Indy, which is considered a ND pipe line school. Has a lot of interest from Big Ten schools. His size is comparable to Sam Young.

I started a thread on this kid a while ago with some articles from Scout and Rivals pasted to it...

He wants to be Irish so bad its almost sad...Latina and Weiss told him at the ND Camp this past week that they are going to wait to see more game film on him to see if they will offer, but he is getting offers from Iowa, NC State, Purdue, Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State and Louisville...

The kid is a monster and plays with great footwork and good knee bend, looks like a natural left tackle, but doesn't show the physical force that some (Stewart, Robinson, Wenger) did while they were in high school...

Could be the next Mike Rosenthal or he could be the next Mike Turcovich...either way his size and potential are intriguing enough to the coaches at ND for them to visit him and to tell him to wait for their offer, which likely means they are holding their breath on Xavier Nixon and Anthony LaLota to come in as the final two offensive line recruits in the class and as soon as one of them committs elsewhere he will get his offer...

The only problem I can see with that strategy is that Nixon and LaLota could drag out to the All American Bowl season, where Koehne will want an offer sooner than later and deservedly so...

I would hate to see this kid get passed up...but if that means we get Nixon and LaLota, than it is...what it is..

Koehne does not mention ND. Zach Martin (4*) does - final five.

Well...that is news to me...I had heard that over the summer he would committ to ND if offered, now with Florida and other schools pushing hard for him, he may have realized that ND was not as hot and heavy for him as others and he wants to go where he is wanted, not where he is "plan B"

Too bad, I thought this kid was going to be a player...On to Martin, who I'm not as excited about, as far as local prospects go...
