Rockne3d
We just issued a boatload of new offers so I thought I would try to list all of them. Obviously many of these have been mentioned in other posts: DE Pat Muldoon CB Marlon Pollard (soft commit to UCLA) WR Jamal Patterson OT Zach Martin OT Michael Schofield DE Davon Custis OLB Barkevious Mingo OLB Jonathan Stewart S Kevin Brent S Jawanza Sterling P Ben Turk ATH Logan Thomas As I said, it's a boatload of offers. Good to see the staff continue to go after top talent.
mcdougal93
Can't believe we're offering a punter and kicker on the same year.
Donjuan
Can't believe we're offering a punter and kicker on the same year. You catch more fish with a wider net. We need a kicker who can kick it out of reach, we still don't have one.
DTCBND03
We need to offer at least 27 more kickers and punters (eyes rolling)...what are we doing??? Punting and kicking is such a mind game we should leave it to walk-ons. Just look at Price last year who was supposed to be a stud but lost his confidence. Soko
Because the kicking game has been stellar since dj left. 85 schoolies, I'll give 5 of them to have a competent kicking game. It's what wins the tight games i.e. navy. It can be argued that the kicker is as important as any player on the team. Why not give it the attention it deserves? GermanyDomer
Last good kicker I remember was Craig Hentrich. Has there been any good ones since? I cant remember.
OntarioIrish
Nick Setta was 46/66 0ver four years - fairly reliable

tchris555
I like the offers to the OT's. Gotta land 2-3 of them anyway(hopefully 1 of them is Nixon). I like the look of Mingo (and the name). Looks a lot like the Keith Wells kid we offered late in the game last year. What position are we looking at Logan Thomas to play?

Someone already mentioned Setta but Fitzpatrick was pretty decent and he also punted very well for us.
Katzenboyer
We never have a problem with the kicking game if it's solid, but you sure as s**t complain about it when it's poor. I'd rather not have to worry about it, and if it means 3-5 schollies tied up in kids to make our special teams a weapon (and it IS a major part of the game), I'm all for it. Guest Krazyglue2k
Not that I don't enjoy a good kicker debate, but a small redirect if I may. Any reason why the staff seemed to change gears and push out a large number of offers over the last few days? It seemed like we were playing things pretty conservative (offer wise) up till now. Is this something that generally happens around this time of year or is this an indication of the staff "moving on" (if you will) from the primary targets? IrishCalves
I don't think this is a "moving on" wave. If that were the case, we'd probably have seen an offer at QB (Bridgford), NT (McFarland), and maybe something more at CB than a guy who's committed elsewhere currently (Corey Brown, from what I've gathered is fading with ND). Don't get me wrong, some of the offers are decided to speed things up, but this isn't us saying its over with the earlier offers. I've kept hearing throughout from ND recruits that their pace will be slower than most schools. Part of that is trying to drag it out a bit, and part of that is them taking their time with these offers in evaluating. They wanted to be sure they offered the right kicking prospects. There are a lot of tackle prospects, so getting the right guy the offer is important. A lot of these defensive offers are also kids from the south, where we really have to do research on just to see if they'd reciprocate interest. I wouldn't juxtapose this with last year's class. I don't remember when Omar verballed (the first time that is), but we had either 13 or 14 commitments at this time last year. No need to send out another wave when your class will be filled up by summer's end. We didn't need to send out that wave off offers before, so I wouldn't think too hard about this one. This is the product of a slower time table, summer months kicking in, so now is the time to get someone's attention, and not trying to put all your eggs in one basket. I don't think this is ND hitting the panic button or anything; this just looks like the natural next step given where ND recruiting is so far. Sorry.
IrishCalves
Same school as T.J. Bryant? Yeah, he included us in the list too, even though he was never all that gung ho about the Irish - interested, but never banging down our door unless you believe all the rumors you hear, which are sketchy at best (Shayne Hale is ON CAMPUS and JUST COMMITTED!!!!). At any rate, I think there has to be a coach at their HS that likes the Irish and keeps them around as far as opening the door to our coaching staff for recruiting purposes, but I'm with Rockne in that I wouldnt believe for a second that we're the lead horse here.
