dude, when alums want something they usually get it. i think you're completely underestimating that in this situation...

Boy is that a true statement. Especially when it's the Alums that tend to donate a lot of coin to the University. What's that saying about money and how it makes the world go around?

Dome - you know the saying "Money is the root of all evil"

Very true Double D...however there's no debating whether or not it also makes the world go around. Money = power. That is one of the reasons the USA has no much influence in the world and it's also the reason why wealthy, generous alumni can get things done when the want to.

Personally...I never want enough money to the point where I would have power. I'd actually like to make it to heaven some day!!

My problem as well - money doesn't motivate me except when I need to pay the bills  My wife is still coming to grips with that reality that our goal is to get to heaven not be Bill Gates on a power trip to hell...

King Solomon had a palace of gold and is considered the wealthiest man ever. So give me wisdom then money, and power will soon come hither. On a side note, National Treasure was a pretty decent movie (although far-fatched). A quote from that movie that I like :"The debt that old men pay" = ??? So what's the debt, any takers??

I would like you all to know that the final scenes of that movie were shot in my own back yard and i will promptly be looking for that "lost" city under the Sylvan Lake. Which by the way isn't right behind Mount Rushmore.

Your allowed to get into heaven even though your wealthy.....

Very true, it's just harder. I'm still motivated to make money, don't get me wrong. People can do a lot of good things when they have money. I don't think it's a bad thing to be wealthy, i just think it would be harder to do "the right thing" a lot of the time, at least for me. So that's why i said I wouldn't want to be extremely wealthy.

A Godly man can be blessed with wealth, also; the eye of the needle is not referring to the actual hole in the needle's head, but rather Israel's "eye of the needle- gate" which is too low for a camel to walk through forcing them on there knees in order to pass. Suggesting that only through humility and faith in God (on your knees), can a man obtain wealth and in good measure! But this is always taken out of context and I admit that's what I thought it meant as well! "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth eh?" (Another practiced-belief God used to explain man's tic for tac belief and to where it would lead you):D Alright, sorry for the hijack guys!!

My wife is a social worker. If you think the poor are righteous by virtue of having no money then spend some time with them brother. Money for beer, drugs, lottery tickets, cable TV, BBQ grills but money or clothes for the kids? Forget it.

If the poor really are morally superior then you have to have a system to keep them that way lest you ruin their soul. Hello communism. Or the socialism preached by the Jesuits - Liberation Theology. Then check out FA Hayek's - The Conceit of Socialism. If you guys are really serious on this topic.

Wasn't there a reference to Bill Gates on here having a possibly hard time getting into heaven because of all his wealth?

The dude donates so much money to so many causes, I don't think he will have a problem.

Maybe a better example would be Donald Trump or that dude that owns Hustler, though he did lose the use of his legs.

I believe that money is the "great exaggerater". What i mean by that is that money exaggerates everyones qualities, whether good or bad. If you are a good moral and ethical person, you will do good things with your money. If you're a bad person you wil likely do bad things.

I don't think money is the root of all evil. Evil ppl are the root of all evil kind of similar to that whole guns don't kill ppl, ppl kill ppl.

i'm struck by the relative naivety expressed regarding wealth and obtaining it. the fact is , folks, to get really wealthy, i mean over 5 million net worth, you have had to be an douche bag to people along the way. or you had to utter the phrase "it's just business" more than once. or both. most likely both.

sorry, but i've been around some millionaires in my day and if you don't think they wouldn't step on their mommas to get more money, you're got another thing coming...

btw, PLENTY of people have written about the unethical things bill gates did right from the start with microsoft! i'm THRILLED he's giving so much away now; it equals his ledger with me but please, he's no saint in the least.

Very true. You cannot reach the top of the ladder without stepping on a few rungs on the way up.

There are obvious exceptions to that though such as lottery winners and those fortunate enough to inherit "old money". Again, my only point was that temptations are greater for the wealthy IMHO. Not trying to be self righteous at all though. I said i TRY to do the good thing and right thing. Often times I fail, but I do try.
