He has verbally agreed to become UCLA's next head footbal coach. However, he told the UCLA AD Guererro that he wanted to finish the NFL season before being announced as coach, but Guererro wants him announced soon. Chow is known to be a fickle guy so who knows what will happen....

All I know is, if DeWayne Walker (and E. Scott too) leaves, it's open season on UCLA's recruits - I know you guys are after some of them. Norm is a great offensive mind, but he is NOT a good recruiter at all. I think UCLA should have gone harder after Leach or brought in someone like Neuheisel.... this will be interesting.

Thats pretty big news. This is going to be interesting, Normy battling his old boss. I wonder if he's gonna pull in some hotshot recruiters. He better.

The only guys I believe we'd be interested in would be:

Rahim Moore Scout #32 5 star safety

Damien Holmes Scout #58 4 star DE

Anthony Dye Scout #89 4 star CB

Am I missing anyone?

Datone Jones & Milton Knox

i would love to see Norm Chow get a commitment from QB Matt Barkley the #1 rated player for rivals 2009 class. don't know why it couldn't happen, he'd have a much better chance at playing early at UCLA and be coached by Norm Chow himself.

This is a bad idea for UCLA, because I hear Norm is a BAAADDD recruiter. Great system and great mind, but inability to articulate or relate to recruits. I could be wrong, but I would take my chances with Neuheisal or Leach.

If I am UCLA I would role the dice on Chow. Surround him with good recruiters if that is his weakness. Walker and Scott are already on staff, retain them.

UCLA needs a big name hire. UCLA needs to show recruits in Cali and USC that they are serious about football again. What better way to do that then by reeling the architect of USC's offensive machine? For me Neuheisal and Leach just do not carry the same weight as Chow does.

i think that would be a great hire for UCLA. I'm a big Norm Chow fan and I have respect for UCLA. I hope does well there and starts putting the hurt to Petey.

I think it's funny how concerned people are about his recruiting when all he did was coach phenomenal players at USC (3 Heismans under his reign basically).

Someone will help him recruit, and he'll utilize his players. Coaching comes first.

He's going to put a dent in SC. Good for us.

It's all getting confusing that who is going to where in 2007. The only positive I see is with Ty crumbling, the talk of rasist ND has faded. But we do have to improve 2008.

Wow, now some people are saying that Guererro gave Chow an ultimatum to make a formal decision this week, else the job is going to Neuheisel.

UCLA is seriously on like their 7th or 8th choice for coach...

There's rumors that DeWayne Walker might go to UW. That'd be an interesting pairing...

(BTW - Matt Barkley to SC is the worst kept secret in recruiting. He's probably a bigger USC fan than I am.)

i wonder if mitch mustain is wishing he was back at arkansas. i don't know how he's going to beat out both mark sanchez and matt barkley (IMO barkley is better then sanchez, crist and clausen).

Isn't that blasphemy? :D

He has Corp to fight it out with as well Russ.

Mustain is 3 years ahead of Barkley, and is a better QB than Barkley right now. The 3 year age difference is huge.

A lot of people think that Mustain is going to win the starting QB spot next year - it's probably 50/50 right now... I talked to one USC coach who thought Mustain was the favorite but that was way back in September before Sanchez got some PT. It's actually pretty interesting - there's a pretty strong divide among SC fans. I'd say 65% are in the Sanchez camp, and about 35% are in the Mustain camp (I'm in the Mustain camp.. hehe). It will be an interesting spring.

Also, people need to realize that if Mustain and D. Williams hadn't transferred from Arkansas, H. Nutt would still be the coach there. All the drama that sent him packing was triggered by the whole Springdale fiasco.

How do you come up with UCLA being on their 7th or 8th choice??? Mariucci, Neuheisal, Leach, and Chow were their front runners... SC propaganda machine.

fighton2007 from where i sat, i think i would take Sanchez for my QB, But i hope your happy with the kid . Mitch, in my opinion needs to mature a bit more . i wish him luck . 8)

Dude (and back to thread), Milton Knox is not yet a UCLA commit, taking visits and very much wants ND offer. If he gets offer, he visits in Jan but not visiting without offer, understand Crist and MacDonald are pulling hard for him with the staff. One of Milton's junior teammates, receiver Flournoy already has ND offer as well. Milton initially took SAT and did not receive offer, he has retaken ACT and felt like he did really well...gets score soon so we will see what happens...seems like a good and clearly well-liked kid

Mustain is actualy one of the most mature kids on the team. Talk to him for 1 minute and you'd probably come away w/ the same impression.

I wouldnt judge him based on his transferring. If you knew the entire story behind the Arkansas-Springdale fiasco, you would feel bad for teh guy. Any person in his shoes would've transferred...

I was probably exagerrating... but UCLA struck out w/ at least 3-4 candidates on the board ahead of Chow.

We know, at least Publicly, that Peterson, Mariucci, and Leach said no. I'm sure there were a couple other candidates that were considered privately as well...

Chow is NOT head coaching material, he is a brilliant offensive coordinator. There's a reason he has NEVER been a head coach before. He got passed over at BYU (after being there for 26 years + he's Mormon too), he didn't get the Stanford job after 2005, etc. Any other person w/ his pedigree would be the hottest commodity on the college coaching market.

He is not a Motivator, he is not a Recruiter (at SC he never did any recruting at all), and he is not a Personable guy (he's going to hate dealing w/ the alumni and boosters of a college program).

AGain, I'd say there's still a 60% chance he ends up to coach UCLA. He was offered the job over the weekend, but he wants to wait til the end of the NFL season, which will hurt him recruiting-wise (exhibt 1 that he is not a good recruiter). Guererro is giving him a deadline from what i'm hearing.

I agree fighton. If you've seen any of my posts on the topic, you would know that I have some insight into that situation. Mustain got a raw deal in the press and on a lot of message boards when he shouldn't have. I'm glad to hear he's doing well.

mustain is already better than sanchez.

Let him fight it out with the other two.

BTW fighton, where are you hearing all of this?
