4 star out of high school, looks like he didnt get to play too much at Kentucky.

yeah, he didn't like Kentucky's coach and was pretty upset that his promised playing time wasn't given.

Holy sh*t, this is huge! I was worried he was gonna choose Illinois over us...this is gigantic for next year men. Big shout to Tory for luring his old buddy to South Bend...and apparently this kid is into laid back coaches so Brey's style really helped here...

really? i've heard for the past week he was ND?...but very true, it is huge that Brey's got that style and a big kudos for ND picking him up

this is great news for nd basketball fans.. it was almost a sure thing that he was going to illinois.. this is pretty surprising..

Right now that's true schell but they've got themselves a great coach and recruiter. I'm no Kentucky fan but it will only be a short while before they are at the top tier of D1 basketball again. I just like the fact that we added some talent in the interim.

No worries, Brey will find a way to make the kid regress or find a way not to utilize him.

Yea...just like he did with Chris Quinn

Chris Thomas, Torin Francis, with a misuse of Troy Murphy & Ryan Humphrey. Brey has failed to develop some serious players and I got sick of watching Chris Thomas digress every year. How do you let that happen?

Brey has always let his players play when they get on the court. Chris Thomas had an awesome freshman and sophomore year, but a knee injury hurt is quickness and he really didn't have the talent around him. Torin Francis is playing in Europe, so its not like this kid is all of a sudden playing well and shows Brey's ineptitude. Troy Murphy was not misused!! and that wasn't even Brey anyway. Same for Humphrey. If you look at the team this year and last year, you see a lot of guys who are not the 5 star and 4 star recruits, but play well as a team and have fun on the floor. I follow ND basketball pretty closely and Brey, while maybe lacking as a recruiter, has brought consistency to ND.

And Legion - well his mom is supposedly an issue, but we heard the same about JC. She is a minister in Kentucky who was once Catholic, but switched to Pentecostal. sources at County Day where he went to school with Jonas Gray have linked him to ND, but he was on an official to Illinois last night. I think we get him in the end, and he should be able to play second semester of next year.

Chris Thomas was a ball hog and was given WAY too much freedom by Brey. As good as he was, he needed to be more of a team player and distribute the ball better then he did. If I were another player on the team, I would have hated playing with him.

At the beginning it worked for CT but later on it didn't. I saw him play against UConn and Okafor was having a field day with him. Maybe he should have gone into the draft early? At least if he sucked he would have had a nice guaranteed bonus out of it.

Troy Murphy's last year was Brey's first. Chris Thomas was a phenom under Doherty. I would take Doherty back in a heartbeat. Being a player's coach doesn't win, unless you are at Duke. We don't get that kind of talent. When you have Troy and Humphrey on the same team, you run the high-low. Brey loved it to be thrown around the perimeter, though. There are a lot of people who disagree with his use of the players, and Francis won the McDonald's player of the year coming out of HS. Tell me how going to Europe is an accomplishment after that. Thomas wasn't given appropriate guidance. Calipari who has Memphis in the Top 5 and Pearl who has UT doing well all COACH. They yell and demand the players do what they say. They don't sit back and let the players do whatever the hell they want. They DEVELOP players.

Chris Thomas never played for Doherty. He was recruited by him, then, when Dohboy left, Brey had to re-recruit him.

me

Everyone talks about a coaches ability to develop players and fail to give any of the players credit or blame. If Brey is to blame for Francis, than he deserves the credit for Harangody and Hillesland and Russell Carter. You can't just pick and choose your examples to fit an argument. And Brey gets the benefit of the doubt because he is a great spokesman for the university. his handling of the mcalarney situation was amazing and the way the team responded was good. I'm not saying Brey is the next Coach k, but at least he is a good coach who represents the university well.

So did we actually get this player?? I see a lot of speculation and I know he visited Illinois yesterday, so did we officially land him??

No news yet, I thought I read he is visiting ND this week also. I think Alex said it could be up to another week before he makes an official announcement. Despite his Mom saying he is going to ND, the words out of Alex's mouth would lead us to believe that he is undecided.

The good: Alex is a great get, and I'm a UK fan. He does have issues with Gillispie, who runs hard core practices. If you don't cut it in practice, you don't play, which is ALex's problem. Gillispie would rather lose the game, he is starting walk-ons, than give in to his principles. I admire that. He played a 5"6" walk-on who made the team through open tryouts because the starter gave him some lip. Personally, I love it! The players just aren't on board ...YET!

The bad: Momma. She's borderline crazy. Per her, she is a prophet, and God tells her what to do. God told her to switch high schools 3 times. He/she told her to have Alex commit to UM, then de-commit, then commit again to UM, then de-commit again. God told her to send her son to UK, although she never knew it was a basketball school. Guess who told Alex to leave UK. She moved here wit him, but I here she plans to stay, which would be great for ALex.

The family had 2nd thoughts, and told Gillispie Alex wanted to come back tp UK, but Billy let them wither in the wind, finally telling them no thanks. Alex was a top 50 player. If he can break away a little from mom, he will have a great career.
