Recruiting Classes?

Β

From the '07 class, I am looking forward to seeing Gary Gray on the corner next season. I think he can be a dominant force as a cover guy. During the AAA game last year and at all the practices for the game, he was the only guy to shut down Thompson and the other top guys.

From the '08 class, I can't wait to see OMAR dominate for the next 3 years.

What say you???

From the '07 class I'm interested in more DUVAL and getting to see Mike Ragone emerge into a great TE... I'd like to also really see Allen explode. From the '08 class I can't wait to see Kyle Rudolph play some TE and Omar become the beast he will be... Also can't wait to see the next Randy Moss/Terrell Owens (Without the nuisances that those two have caused)

I am more of a D guy. I love Defense. but the guys you mentioned on O will be the next great things at ND

FROM 07 Offense: Jimmy + Huuuughes

FROM 07 Defense: Brian Smith

FROM 08 Offense: Floyd

I'm with Lowe on this one, although I would probalby replace Brian Smith with Neal. I also think Crist will be big time!

My only thing with smith is that he needs to tone down the cheap shots a little, but other than that, I love him.

I disagree a bit. I don't like cheap shots or the penalties but he is one of the few people on the team that play NASTY. If I were on offense, I'd be afraid of what the guy might do to me. We need his attitude to filter throughout the entire team so they all play with a chip on their shoulders and take no prisoners.

I too am very excited to see Dayne play. However, I really hope he redshirts, because he played, he could only start one year after Jimmy left, unless JC leaves early, which I kind of doubt right now.

smith takes cheapshots?

i havent noticed..what happened?

I think they're referring mostly to the Purdue game, I was pretty pissed off at him that game myself. I think he had like two late hits against them and after Painter threw it once he elbowed him the the jaw or something, and he was pretty damn lucky he didn't get caught for that. Nevertheless I was still pretty ticked off at him. But other than that game I didn't notice much more of that from him, and the elbow was really the only "cheap shot" I saw from him, the late hits were probably just stupid mental errors and mistakes, just not thinking.

08 defense, cant wait to see what ethan johnson can do, most highly touted for a reason.....and on offense rudy has been sensational this season playing against some of the toughest competition in the country, i expect him to contribute early and often next year

07-Hughes/Tate on Offense, Kerry Neal/Gary Gray on D

08-i can't decide between Floyd, Crist and Rudolph for Offense, and between Slaugher and Johnson on D

'07: Clausen, Tate, Dever, Williams, and (don't forget) Parris (he was a very pleasant surprise this year)

Β

'08: Cwyner, Cave, Johnson, Fleming, and Filer. I don't see Crist getting any PT next year with Clausen and Sharpley in front of him.

Offense 07- Matt Romine- I really loved him coming out of Tulsa HS and really think he can be a beast.

Offense 08- Its an odd one but Im going to go with Joe Fauria. Hes an interesting prospect because of his size and hands at the TE position... also with the chance to move into a OT ie. Eric Winston or Debrickisaw Furgeson.

Β

Defense 07- Gary Gray. I really think he can be something special.

Defense 08-Steve Filer. I cant wait for him to average about 10+ tackles a game for the next 3+ years.

Its amazing how a 5 star guy can go under the radar, yet somehow Kyle Rudolph has managed to do that. Maybe its just my experience, but for most people its Floyd, then Crist, then one of the lineman, then Kyle. Committing early + pre-existing depth at the position + overall class depth = under radar I suppose. I'm well aware of how fast a healthy Mike Ragone is, and that he could be even faster a 2nd year removed from his ACL injury, but don't be fooled into counting Kyle out. The guy is a complete player, and once he tacks on some weight... look out IMO.

FYI, I'd pick all of our OL recruits if I could, but that simply wouldn't be fair for the subject.

As for 08 defense, I'm really looking forward to what Anthony McDonald COULD bring to the table. If he pans out, having that kind of demeanor out on the field will only raise the play of everyone out there. I'm pulling for him to put things together, 'cause his attitude is one that's been missing from our LB play for a while.

Β

From last year's class on offense? I've always liked Allen and Hughes, but Duval Kamara is a guy I really want to see avoid the "sophomore slump". The way he started to come on towards the end, I could see him having the complete 4-year career that everyone envisioned for Maurice Stovall. I'd love to see him catchin' passes with Floyd for years to come.

Β

As for defense, I'm a huge Kerry Neal guy, but I'm gonna go with the name that has been left out so far: Harrison Smith. I know he had some things to clean up in his overall game from HS, but he's got more abilities back there than anyone on the team IMO. I could see him being a beast on special teams no matter where he lines up, and I know his skill set is that of a complete safety. Our depth is pretty decent there, but I think he could shake things up in camp.

07

Off: Mike Ragone - I'd like to see him emerge as a receiving threat able to create all sorts of problems for opposing LB's who dare try to cover him.

Def: Harrison Smith - Probably won't see a lot of time with Gaines and Brown in front of him. But he brings great athleticism to the position, which I think will allow for a more "balls out" blitz scheme. Seeing as they won't have to worry about Smith getting burned.

08

Off: Michael Floyd/Dayne Crist. Floyd, well do I really need to explain. A premier player at a position where ND needs premier players. Crist we won't know what he will bring to the table until 10' or 11' (Assuming Clausen is the right man for the job and stays four years). Crist has the size and arm to excel at the position. Needs time to grow mentally, which a few years on the sideline will help.

Def: Omar Hunter - See Michael Floyd.
