Seen a thread over on IE that stated he was considering de commiting from UCLA and wanted to set up a visit with ND. Has anyone heard anything and also if this does have any merit would we have room? Seems to be thought he gets by on athletisism alone would need to be coached up at the next level (raw).

Heard this rumor awhile back too. We would be lucky to get Datone Jones.

I don't want this to sound like a bash on the kid because I honestly know nothing about him.

I do know he's from Compton, California and goes to school there. My question, then, is does he have the grades to get into Notre Dame? I don't know anything about the school system there, but I'd imagine they're not known for sending a lot of kids to schools with the academic standards ND has.

Does Stanford get any kids from those schools? I think if the Cardinal can get those kids in, then ND shouldn't have any problem.

That's a pretty borderline question K-State. I don't think you meant ill-will at all, just have to be careful on how you word something like that. I personally know 2 kids from River Rouge (rough suburb of Detroit) who have went on to graduate Suma from G-town. If he (Datone) is looking at a prestigious university to attend, then I would hope that he would have done his homework first on academic requirements involved. But, IMOHO, our class will be filled up by then. :)

And that's the thing. I just was asking an honest question because I don't know anything about the schools there or the kid.

I just don't think, to my knowledge, that ND has ever had a kid on their team from Compton. I'm from Ohio, but pretty much everyone knows the reputation Compton has and that's honestly all I have to go off of. It's probably ignorant on my part, but I don't have any other way of doing my research on Compton.

Now, whether no kid has come here because of academics, lifestyle, weather, coaches guiding them, wanting to stay home...I just don't know. No clue. Just asking because of the reputation Compton has earned in the media and in the public eye.

I just was asking what I thought was a fair enough question. We may have an offer out to him, but we had an offer to Jonathan Baldwin as well, who apparently ran into an academics issue. Offers don't always mean it's a sealed deal - especially at a school with ND's academic hoops to jump through.

yeah, just ask jonathan baldwin..........
yeah, just ask jonathan baldwin..........

Do you mean about grade issues? If so, yeah, that's I think what I'm trying to get to. I'm just curious if anyone knows what his grade situation is like.

Even if he does have the GPA, schools in Compton might not provide him with the basic course schedule that he'd need to get into ND. I don't know what that school district is like, but if it's like the ones in inner-city Youngstown where I was born and raised (which, for those who don't know, is just as bad of an inner-city as Compton is)...It ain't happening for the kid.

And that's totally not his fault. That's all on the school district and the politicians who don't seem to care about the educational system in some places.

No. JB was quoted to have said that we have laid off of him and that we no longer would be in his list of favorites. Which would lead me to believe that we are done recruiting his position.

In Lamens Terms, the boat is full. Sorry about your luck Datone, but we won't be left at the alter anymore!!

Jonathan Baldwin was being recruited as a WR and we laid off because of grades not because the position was full.

Datone Jones is a DE prospect, not a WR prospect so the comparison wouldn't apply anyway.

you pretty much hit the nail on the head. this is exactly the case...........

Sorry for my confusing post earlier. I do know that JB was being recruited as a WR and I was trying to make "the boat is full" comparison. I was under assumption that JB had taken that test and had scored high enough for entry but I misread that. Anyways, I think it might be too late for Datone, but who really knows?

We can always use more defensive players, but would CW really take away another red shirt for another defensive player??? I guess I'm game for it.

USC is right in the middle of Compton. I'm surprised he didnt go there.

Hey! Easy E (god rest his soul), Dr Dre and Ice Cube are from the CPT and they all did well. Well except for Easy. Snoop is from Long Beach. You are right. The CPT guys usually hang with USC.

I think you shouldnt judge kids from where they come from. Nobody ever thought that Zorich would make it to ND, but he did and we are all so damn proud of him. I think that if a kid from compton can make it into ND and succeed, that ND is all the better of a place because of it. We should welcome kids like Datone if it seems like he can make it at ND

Time to take this thread in another direction.

Where would he fit in the defense? He looks good out of both a three-point and a two-point stance. While I think he would be a little small for the WDE position in a 3-4, I think he would fit in nicely at an outside linebacker position in a 3-4 and a down WDE in a 4-3.

He definetly has some versatility, which is one of the things you need for 3-4 players.

He's one of those tweener guys that you need for OLB!!! He can get in 3-point and he can roam the field.....however I honestly think that with his addition we would be way to heavy on DL!!!!! I know blasmey after the past woes in DL recruiting. But damn wanna kill yourself in 3 to 4 years when they all graduate....space it out...we need more balance. Leave the spot and take an extra DL next year!!!

Hey NDGirlz, how'd the interview go?

girlz, i hear ya, but i think you can never get too much on the line. the incidence of injury and just wearing out is way too prevalent. load this sucker up and keep rotating in the freshies.................

Hey NDGirlz, how'd the interview go?

Thanks for asking.....it went well! Now we just have to work out the money thing!!!! Hopefully I'm there in mid January!!!
