im very excited about this classes potential at ND. i don't know if it's the best class in ND history but they will be very good. of all the guys coming in next year i'll be very interested to see how john goodman does, since everyone is comparing him to jeff samardzija.

i don't know russ. i seem to remember, and correct me if i'm wrong, that there was a lot of comparisons of robby paris to jeff. i sure hope goodman bears a more accurate resemblance......................

February can't get here soon enough for me, its going to be a nerve racking 2-3 mos.

yeah, i remember those comparisons also. i think the difference between goodman and paris coming into ND is that goodman speed is slightly better and his overall strenght is better as well.

I have always liked Robby Parris. I really liked his recruiting videos. But I have to say that I am disappointed in him this year. He has too many drops in 07, granted not David Grimes amounts but still too many.

The thing I like about Goodman's film is the YAC, he is a playmaker, that's why I think the comparison is accurate.

I still think Parris has a chance to live up to everything he was billed to be. He hasnt been given much of a shot to prove anything yet. I think he's been o.k. Theres no reason why we shouldnt have a good offense next year.

i hear ya germany, but my observations of robby have been that he does not get good separation at the line of scrimmage, has dropped some catchable balls, has been outjumped for balls by much smaller competition and does not come back to the qb after he runs his route. i realize he is young, but he needs to become the dominant force that he was touted as in high school.......

GD, let me clarify that I do think that Robby still has the potential to live up to my expectatons but he better get moving because this year was his best opportunity and there is some bigtime competition heading his way. Above all else, my biggest problem with him is he has had too many drops. Priority 1 of being a WR--catch the damn ball!

While we are talking Wr's. Charlie, please move George West and David Grimes down the depth chart--to 4 and 5. IMO, our top 3 WR's should be Parris, Kamara and Tate. It sickens me to constantly see 2 WR sets with our 2 smurfs out there together. It's not like they are making plays. I think it should be Kamara and Parris with Tate getting plenty of PT in 3 WR sets.

how come we haven't seen more of dj hord this season.

i definitely think that parris has the chance to become a good receiver at notre dame. Remember not to long ago when Mo Stovall came in with high expectations and spent his first two seasons dropping passes. It wasnt until his junior year when he showed improvement and then turned into a monster receiver his senior year. I think for receivers at this level who have trouble catching the ball early in their careers there is a point where something just clicks and they realize that they have the ability to catch everything that comes in their vicinitiy. Stovall's first TD catch against Navy in '05 is a perfect example of a catch he made his senior year that he never would have made in his first 2 years at ND.

i can only speculate that he still isn't right after that achilles tear. i've never seen anybody get back to 100% after that injury. even if the injury itself doesn't hamper the athletes efforts, just having it in the back of their minds really creates a sense of vulnerability and screws with their psyche.........................

Russ I said the same thing, and the only conclusion I can come to is that he's not 100 percent. Maybe he doesn't work hard in practice and Weis doesn't reward that. I don't know, It's disappointing because I expected him to have a breakout year.

Good point on the comparison of Stoval, Mooney.

some good points mooney, but i think we are at the end of our patience quota.............

if u remember tho, it wasnt til jeff s was a jr thst he dominated

yup, only because that numbskull of a coach never threw the ball to him............

I think that Parris was hurt badly in his senior year, where his mom feared for his career, and has affected his ability long-term. What it means is that he doesn't have as much potential as Charlie & Co. thought when they recruited him, although he can still be a productive receiver, finding seams in the zones. He has a particular connection with Sharpley, but was good on that 25-yarder when Clausen was running in the pocket last week against Air Force.
