Last week in the heat of the game I called for Charlie's head and was promptly lambasted. This week I have kept my mouth shut even though I still see some poor calls on the field, a lack of heart, and a lack of hustle, all of which I place squarely on the coaches shoulders.

I made a post on GH after the Michigan game that I thought the team wasn't responding to the coaches and that if they didnt get control it would grow.

But even with all that I think I will still wait and hope with anticipation as to what this team will look like next year.

The fact is this team stinks and has stunk all season. In fact, we have regressed. Anybody who thinks this team has improved overall this season is in a serious state of denial. This team if it was really well-coached should have improved after nine games into the season. I no longer accept that our players are talented, 4-and-5-star players. They simply are not. And they have little to no fire in their bellies.

Don't give me the loyalty crap anymore. How many times does it take to watch these guys lose to teams like Air Force and Navy before we fans can be shaken out of a serious state of denial?

And what makes anyone think things will get better the rest of this season and next season? All of the sudden the players will just like "poof" be suddenly better next season? Puhhleese!

It all boils down to coaching. And if it ain't coaching, it's that the players are overrated. How else do you explain getting a butt-whipping from two of the academy teams the last two weeks?

My guess is that some of us have our head so far up our a$$es we won't begin to realize how pathetic things have gotten until we suffer through another year of the same old same old.

I am now convinced. It's time for Charlie to go. Because if the guys are as good as everyone thinks they are, he should be able to get out of them what the academy coaches gets out of its players who aren't even on the lowest rating scale and were not recruited by most competitive NCAA teams. Yet they play with precision, fire, execution and they know how to kick butts and win against bigger, more athletic, and "better" teams, just like they did tonight. It's either coaching or no talent at this point. I'm betting on a big dose of both.

Nuff said!

I'm beginning to wonder too. Next year is it though. Results wil have to come and come fast.

i dont image anyone knows the record of the teams Weis has beaten while at ND and the records of the teams that Weis has lost against?? i think i remember hearing that over the years when Weis was winning alot he wasnt really doing it against the top tier teams but instead beating up on the weaker teams.

wait...so giving up 102 points in 3 games and scoring 13...compared to even Purdue/UCLA week isnt improvement? i think many ND fans ARE in a state of denial, because despite us not being a good team, ND fans probably have the most pessimistic fan base. My grandpa included. They always look down when they are down and expect to much

I'm not doing this years results..but in the past...

records of teams we lost to....

in 05-06:

Mich. St.- 5-6

USC- 12-1

OSU- 10-2

in '06-'07:

Mich- 11-2

USC- 11-2

LSU- 11-2

I think he has to get at least 7-8 wins next year, there some excuse to not having a good year this year, but not this friggin bad, but next year there is seriously no way no how that they shouldnt win games with all the talent they will have

How is that other coaches can do so much more with less and CW does so much less with more?

this is what i found elsewhere to be the schedule for next season..

S06 SAN DIEGO STATE

S13 MICHIGAN

S20 @ Michigan St.

S27 PURDUE

O04 STANFORD

O11 @ North Carolina

O25 @ Washington

N01 PITTSBURGH

N08 @ Boston College

N15 @ Navy (Baltimore)

N22 SYRACUSE

N29 @ Southern Cal

aslong as Notre Dame can improve and play up to their talent level they should be able to bounce back alot?

2 toughest games appear to be Michigan and USC. all the others could possily be winnable games? ..that is if Notre Dame does play up to what theyre capable of. maybe reason to be optomistic?

I don't believe anyone anticipated this season to be so bad! At some point during this year the excuses of lack of quality seniors, rebuilding, etc.... kind of loses it affect. Some of these games could have been won by coaching; teaching basics, teaching the pro style offense instead of a spread in fall camp, more patience vs gimmick plays. I do believe that Coach Weis will turn it around next year, but the margin of error because of this year has been reduced. Next year, if we go any less than 5-5, the "Throw him off the train" chorus will become impossible to ignore. Realistically, I don't see us competing for an NC until 2009. But, we better not repeat this year because no one is going to believe the rebuilding crap anymore.

At this point in the year is 1-8 any worse than 1-9? I do see some improvement compared to the beginnning of the year, but it is a little late. I do believe in ND and hope, pray that ND turns it around. I too look forward to ND on Saturdays.

It has been a heck of year for everyone. Nice to see the whole BCS thing turn upside down. If I have any enjoyment this year with college football is to see the BCS crap get a real good rip. Can wait to see the uproar when they they try to pit #1 vs #2.

I hate losing...

But if I (or we) lose... I want it to be because we gave it all, however flawed.

Do you all think we're leaving it all on the field?

Do you think Charlie is asking team to leave it on the field?

Do you think Charlie is conditioning / motivating the team in a way such that they do leave it all on the field...

I do see the performance, as Charlie likes to say, is inconsistent... and is not consistent with the "best players play" philosophy he espouses.

Or if the "best players" are playing... then I am very concerned about whether we've lost the team for this year

I am at the point to where I don't want any 5th year seniors back. These senior and junior classes are just horrible. I can't see any of these players from these two classes starting at a top tier school except for a few. They are like lower-level MAC talent. Next year should be about getting the players that are coming in experience to get ready for the future. This team still has a long way to go. Where was Duval at today?

trevor laws is the only guy who will play on sunday. zibby better start looking for a job...............

I absolutely agree. Zibby used to be good at the run, but that hasn't happened this year either. At least he has boxing.

He can join everyone esle who's stuck around Mishawaka to live off their college notoriety...

The one bad thing I saw yesterday (and no, there wasn't just one) was the lack of fire from the offense at the start of the game.

These kids looked flat and very uninspired.

They had me thinking that they quit on Charlie, or just weren't giving AF any credit.

I too want all of the possible fifth years gone.

Crum can stay because of leadership issues the D will have, but everyone else just go start your lives after ND.

Zibby is sleepwalking.

I saw this very early in the season.

This kid was a beast in '05, but now he gets held up by receivers on blocks to often, and isn't creaming guys anymore.

Is he afraid of preserving his career after life at ND?

Bruton has been a nice surprise at safety and on special teams.

He will help anchor what should be a great and deep secondary.
