November 5, 200717 yr I'm one of the ones who is still "with us". This season is bad and it is a combination of many, many, things and they aren't all Charlie's fault. Some of them are, but not all. How quickly we forget that he brought us to two consecutive BCS bowls. Do you think he all of the sudden forgot how to coach? No. We saw what he could do when he had great senior leadership and a strong core of players. He didn't have that this year. Lets give him time to develop that. If things are still bad in a year or two, then he needs to go. But, imagine what he can do with strong senior leadership, a good core of players, AND depth to back them up. I still believe in Charle and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
November 5, 200717 yr It's like a string of bad luck keeps happening to Chuck...if we weren't in the range for the fourth down kick attempt...meaning well outside "reasonable" range, it wouldn't hurt so much... I'll be calling for Head Coaching heads if this coming year's class jumps ship and leaves us at the altar...
November 5, 200717 yr Author I am a man of few words.....all I can say is I would go into battle any day of the week on the field with Charlie as my head coach......some of our spineless fans not so much.....they would quit on us before we got out of the tunnel.
November 5, 200717 yr ND fans have been an embarrasment since Saturday. Those who hide behind keyboards anyway
November 5, 200717 yr ND fans have been an embarrasment since Saturday. Those who hide behind keyboards anyway Fans have the right to bitch about whatever they want. Doesn't make you a better person or fan because you think you are a "true" fan, whatever that means. Fans and their opinions are as diverse as the universe. We don't need uniformity or cookie-cutter fans who criticize other fans who don't see things exactly as they do. Unity trumps uniformity. Relax, there are people who see things differently from you. We can all agree to root for old Notre Dame, onward to victory, can't we?

There is a huge difference between questioning a play call or saying it was a poorly coached game and saying our coach is not the man to lead us. I totally agree with your post, fans should respect other's opinions even though they might not agree, but I don't think you can apply that to a situation calling for Weis' head. At that point, they have jumped ship and are against the team and the rest of the fans. Weis is ND, and if you give up on him, you're giving up on everyone. Those who have posted here are in agreement that they are tired of hearing how we suck and its the coaches fault.....we believe.

I was horrified by the way Weis called that game but lets not go for the axe just yet. There was another blog with a ridiculous list of potential "candidates" to replace him, none of which were even realistic. It's embarrassing
November 5, 200717 yr It's the general attitude of the nation right now. No patience. Everything has to be NOW. There is no understanding of the totality of environments, just a focus on the results and the results being now. Patience is not a virtue that many have anymore. We are spoiled... Go Irish! No selling out.
November 6, 200717 yr I've been just about the most vocal about CW's performance saturday at least on this board...but I also believe I made it perfectly clear that any notion to fire Charlie was rediculous. I do hold the stance that blind faith is pointless, Charlie deserves all the heat in the world for the loss to an inferior Navy, and Charlie is 1,000 times better than Ty or Bob Davie. That being said, I'm not overly confident in his ability to teach, develope, or motivate. If he isn't good at doing those three things, then he will not be a successful college head coach. The jury is still out as to whether or not he can do those. I for one hope Chiro digs this thread up a year from now and the answer to those three items is yes he can and Domer you're stupid. Please please please let that be the case. Plus, I don't get if I get labled as an embarrassing fan because I insist on holding the head coach solely responsible for a historic blunder of a loss. I'm reality based, not fantasy based.
November 6, 200717 yr Yes, in the heat of the game, I stated he should be gone. But it was the heat of the game and the obvious poor play calling that was building to that blow up. I don't truly think he should be fired at this point. But I am with domeanddomer in that at this point I am not overly confident in his ability to teach, develop and motivate. Fact is we are past the 9th game of the season and I havent seen much improvement in any unit on the team. And that gives me cause for concern for my TEAM. You see, while some might believe that my criticism of the coaching or play calling makes me less of a fan or whatever you people want to call it. I for one am loyal to the Notre Dame team, the kids that come here and make the sacrifice they have to make to be an academic student at ND, and also play football. I support coach Weis and I desperately want him to succeed, but I am sorry, I am not loyal to an individual that the university is paying a whole lot of money to do a job. As domer said I am reality based not fantasy based.
November 6, 200717 yr I... we DD understand batch.... Difficult time. Very glad you put your heart on your sleve for all to see, You are ND
November 6, 200717 yr He needs 2 more years to win a BCS bowl If he has failed by then, he will at least have recruited his ass off and left a healthy, deep roster, full of top quality athletes. Ditching him now would put us back to the stone age He's not going to leave this program in the lurch, he's a ND grad. The same can;t be said for his predecessor. We shouldn't be even talking about bailing on the guy just yet in 2 years time people could be talking about how this was the year that hardened a young squad into winners. Who knows. All I do know is that talk about firing him makes me cringe
November 6, 200717 yr Number one I am old, I graduated in 80 and I have seen a few coaches at the Dome, some good and some not. I also probably don't know blog rules. I don't think Charlie should go anywhere. He revived a declining program in his first 2 years and based on his recruiting and success on Sundays in NE he gets some latitude this year. Also in my opinion whether the Irish win 1 game this year or 4, it still is a miserable year. ND plays football to win. This year is CW's mulligan. ND needs to be a very different team next year, better execution on the field and better coaching. If that does not occur then there should be consideration of a change. One question on last Saturday. Why didn't CW go for two on any of the extra points. If 4rth and 8, 13, and 15 made sense why didn't 4rth and 3? It would seem to me that ND could have got the 3 yards 2 out of 3 times.

I get just as mad as anyone else but, you know I seem to always cheer for my Notre Dame Team. GO IRISH
November 6, 200717 yr Well, I finally got to watch the game, and domer, you are absolutely correct, CW blew it. I can't believe that more people aren't more upset about passing on the FG in the 1st qtr, it meant just as much as the FG in the 4th. Prior to that thought, how is it we can't gain a yard against Navy, and why did we run outside the tackles to do it ? Stupid play call. Other observations: ES is a great kid and a back-up QB. I said this coming out of the spring game and now I look like a genius - even though I not. Our receivers need to learn how to catch the G d d m football, and they block like little old women, well maybe not even that good. OL is still pitiful - screen passes aren't that hard to block. I'm not going to start on this again. I, for one, don't think the def played that bad. I've played against the triple option, and the one thing you are going to do is give up yards. The trouble the def has is that ND can't simulate the triple option in practice, so the def doesn't know how to def it properly. The Navy offense only scored 3 times on the def in regulation, and 3 in OT, but on a short field, they are very hard to stop. With that said, ND should never lose to Navy, and CW has this one hanging around his neck.
enough said.
