Sean Cwyner is going to be an EE for us and it looks like he will be our only one too. No Link, so don't ask

But, it is true

will this effect any other recruits? were there any other recruits who were hoping to get EE?

wasnt that an issue last year with a player or players who wanted EE but didnt get EE and therefor went elsewhere?

so he applies to last years class then right? does this open up a scholly this year?

I don't believe any other commits were looking to EE. Sabino was set up to, but we don't have a shot with him anymore. Enrolling early takes more than just wanting to enroll early the students need to clear a lot of academic hurtles first.

Great news about Cwyner the kid is having a great season and we will need help on the edge w/out Laws.

it means if we dont take a lot of 5th year seniors that we can have more than 26 schollies instead of just 25. 25 is the max in each year unless there are EE's, since we have 1 EE, we can get the max of 26 schollies

I don't think the most significant aspect of this news would be the recruiting scholarship #'s game. It may come to fruition and I might be wrong, but I don't see is going beyond 25. A few months ago we thought there wouldn't be space for Baldwin no matter how hard we tried. Now we're just hoping to get one of four receivers with scholarship offers. The #s game will work itself out.

The most important part of this would be the most obvious: our defensive line is losing its best player (Laws), we're currently very thin in both size (a nose tackle who is at least 20 pounds too light) and depth, and getting Cwynar in there early remedies that. Come fall he'll understand the playbook better, be familiar with college life, maybe do a little more intense strength and conditioning work, all that good stuff. Since DL is typically a rough transition for college players, getting guys enrolled early at that position is particularly huge for this year.

I really hope this is right. Have to remain leery without any sources available, but hearing how he wants to start vs. San Diego State... getting him in the fold has me feeling a little better about the direction of our run defense, and the ability to rotate fresh legs into the mix.

It's too bad there aren't more DL prospects coming in early. Especially Newman and Hunter. Floyd would have also been a very valuable EE.

maybe do a little more intense strength and conditioning work

Very excited that he will be able to come in and get that started. He will have all of spring to get acclimated to the ND lifting program. Most Frosh obviously would only have a few weeks during summer and the season. Correct me if I'm wrong but that is probably not the time period where you would see most lifting take place. I think he can come in and contribute right away.

If I'm not mistaken don't they get a lifting and conditioning "manual" from coach Mendoza when they sign their letter of intent which gives them a few months before they get to campus to be working on the program

Don't count anyone out yet! Mike Frank was saying that they're "working" on another person too for EE. He wouldn't say who, but did say that it's in the works to include another person at this point. Who knows, maybe we'll get 3 EE's this year?? -Don

At this point I'm really not concerned with EE's I just want to keep what we have until signing day.

Look at the guys who have EE'd. I can't say it has been an advantage.

Armando Allen, Jimmy Clausen. Both pretty much starters for part of the year, thats pretty good.

Who except for Stewart are you talking about?

Maybe I am looking at a different set of statistics from a different team. I think these kids should finish high school and come in the fall. We lost the washington receiver because it was even an option. Kamara was not an EE and he has 188 yds receiving and is 3rd ranked on team. Who is starting on a regular basis that EE'd? I think you guys know what i mean. I love ND too! I guess, I see that we really are bad and that these EE's really didn't do anything for us this year. If there is an advantage it is they get used to school before playing football.

You're also speculating that if we had an offensive line, those number would remain the same. But I don't think that's the case here. If we had time to throw the ball accurately, maybe JC throws for more td's? Who knows? But you can't throw out EE because we have no blockers. Put them with some experience and I bet they have some success! -tDon
