Posted October 17, 200717 yr I miss how he would pick guys up. How he would let them know that he knew that they were tired and hurting, but that they have a job to do. When he was in the huddle he had 10 pairs of eyes on him the entire time.
October 18, 200717 yr Yeah, this is exactly what I expected. CW didn't give ES any playing time at all last year and we are paying for it now.
October 18, 200717 yr Yeah, this is exactly what I expected. CW didn't give ES any playing time at all last year and we are paying for it now. I expected us to miss Brady a lot, but not this much. I for one didn't expect us to start as poorly as we have. You make a good point Fanatic about ES not getting any meaningful playing time. Unfortunately, it's hard to provide that with the kind of defense we were fielding the past few seasons. There was probably a general reluctance to provide the offensive backups any playing time at the risk the defense wouldn't hang on.
October 18, 200717 yr Yeah, this is exactly what I expected. CW didn't give ES any playing time at all last year and we are paying for it now. Honestly though, where does Weis have a chance to give Sharpley any real playing time? The only time he could of realistically got was in cleanup time against some bad teams last year. And guess what, no matter how much Sharpley would have played last year he still would be running for his life most of the time behind this OL.

A leader will be born from this all...
October 18, 200717 yr i was at the sugar bowl last year and all i heard (from many ND fans) was how over rated brady was. all i could do was shake my head in disbelief. well, here we are. i would love to run into these same people now. believe me, charlie knew how special the kid was, especially behind a mediocre offensive line.
October 18, 200717 yr This will come. I know it tough but we must show patients. The other key is this offensive line is not improving and they are not helping matters

This is just my opinion, but Sharpley could have at least played a majority of the games agains the three acadamies.
October 18, 200717 yr Yes - I knew we would miss Brady a ton this year not because I am super-smart, but rather because when you watched the tape from last year, you could see just how much Brady had on his shoulders. Brady was making calls and reads and audibles and had lots of latitude to change formations and plays (though not full control). What concerned me is that I saw a lot of other guys on the field who didn't necessarily always need to know their assignments cold because Brady was often pointing out protections and giving them their assignments. I knew then that there was no way the offense this year would be able to function at that level because there was no way and inexperienced QB could do even 50% of what Brady was doing.
October 18, 200717 yr i think the team not only misses brady but all the other guys that left as well. it was pretty obvious that ND was going to struggle this year but i had no idea they would struggle this much.

Sorry dude, I still think Brady was overrated...I've said it a million times: Samardzija, Stovall, Fasano, and McKnight (when he was hauling them in) made Quinn look like a superstar...

With those guys kicking so much tail in the NFL, its no wonder you think Quinn is overrated.
October 18, 200717 yr rocket san, you hit it on the head brady was good no question , but why wasn't sharpley playing some , mop up or mop down he still should have played a bit more, i think cw knows that now,. ok let go irish .
October 18, 200717 yr Without a doubt YES! Brady was a great representative of not only the team but the University in the way he handled himself on and off the field.
October 18, 200717 yr oh yeah, rocketssan, next time you make a comment please watch the games, think to yourself before you type, and then try to say something intelligent. Saying Brady Quinn is overrated is absolutely ridiculous.
October 19, 200717 yr rocket san, you hit it on the head brady was good no question , but why wasn't sharpley playing some , mop up or mop down he still should have played a bit more, i think cw knows that now,. ok let go irish . Personally, I think the reason Evan didn't play much was because of the defensive woes we had over the last couple of years. Most games, we needed the starters in the whole game and for those we didn't, there was probably a fear that if we didn't keep our foot on the opposing teams throat that the defense would give the game away. My bigger issue is why Charlie doesn't spend a bit more time with the backups in practice. If Quinn was as good as Charlie said he was, then he didn't need 95% of the reps. Evan should have been getting more practice reps period.
October 19, 200717 yr This is all water under the bridge!! Do we miss Brady?? OF COURSE!! Was he one of the greatest ND QB's ever??? Without a doubt!! He's erased just about every ND QB record there was!! Will he be Montana incarnant?? Maybe, we will see. Yes, we miss Brady but I miss Shark, Stovall, Fasano and yes, even DW just as much. Let's now look forward to the youngsters that we will be missing in 4-5 years from now!! Oh! And let's get along please. Everyone has a right to their opinions and they should be respected. I'm sure we all agree.

If, and it sounds like we are going to...keep the core of the verbals for 2008, and add them to our currnet Freshman and Sophmore classes, then we all should be able to agree with the Speedster's assessment? Lot of learning going around our program this year. From the Head Coach down to the players themselves. I prefer to call Coach Weis's short comings more of a lack of really understanding the youth than his inability to coach. Coaching teenagers is a whole different animal then a seasoned professional who is being paid to learn his position. I can't help but feel he understand's this today? And yes, I miss Brady too!
