ND got smacked around by Michigan, the Browns lost the season opener, and the Indians blew a critical game today just as we were catching up in the wild card race. True, but if the defense played better in the first half Tommy and co. wouldn't be desperately trying to catch up. Again, boneheaded throw that shouldn't have happened, but I'm not ready to hang the loss on him. He played well otherwise which impressed me with the pressure he was getting throughout the game. It was the defense's fault and Kelly's dumb playcalling. 41 points is inexcusable and I expect WAY more from the talent we have and Diaco in control. We should have run the ball more, especially down the stretch. If you have the horses in your stable, let them loose.

The sky isn't falling because it's the second freaking game of the season. We shouldn't fire Diaco, Kelly isn't Weis 2.0 which some posters seem to be hinting, and the defense will only improve. We weren't going undefeated anyway... Oh, and if we suck this season we get Golson back next year.

I 100% agree with this post, especially the last paragraph.

I just feel our offense moved the ball fine and if we weren't playing catch up the whole game we could have relaxed out there and converted more opportunities. Maybe I'm making an excuse for Tommy Gun and the offense, but I think this one goes on the defense. The offense definitely could have played better though.

I think too many people are hanging this game on Rees. Was he perfect? No. That pick he threw right before the first half bothered the hell out of me, but let's not pretend our defense wasn't horrible. We just couldn't contain Gardner and Gallon and that's why we lost. This one's not on Tommy.
