One thing that has me encouraged is Kelly's ability to recruit linemen, especially on the defense. In all of Weis's years, we were never able to put pressure on the opposing quarterback. Hope we can do it this year.

If we can't recruit a couple of overpowering defensive linemen, who can put pressure on the quarterback, without having to bring linebackers in with them, it will be a long season every year. When the team does do great on 1st and 2nd down, and are in an obvious passing sitution, we are getting picked apart by rookie quarterbacks who are under no pressure. On the offensive side, we need to continue throwing balls downfield to keep the defense on their heels, even if they are not catchable. The "take what they give us" approach is a bit flawed, because the opponent knows we will eventually make mistakes. I don't know if we are really recruiting overpowering offensive linemen either. I don't know how you coach smart people to stop doing stupid penalties. Sergio Brown killed us with that 3rd down late hit. We went from up 14-0 getting the ball back, to up 14-7 instead. One thing I do know, if we are sitting on the fence with Charlie every year, it will not help recruiting. If he gets tossed, this year will suffer, unless we get a superstar in.

I was also at the ucla game, and the crowd reaction was electric. Of course the crowd reaction after every touchdown is electric, and when Brady came back to take the lead in the Bush Push game, the crowd was ecstatic once again. The difference is the result, I guess.

I voted yes. The radio guys were saying the USC defense could beat the Detroit Lions, and the DL guys will be all pros. It showed. Charlie has some good OL recruits coming to add reinforcements. I think there is some way we are tipping our plays on offense, and certainly using the shotgun on running plays tells the defense when the hike occurs. How can you get any kind of offensive line push when the defense also knows when the play is going to start? That has to change for all but certain pass plays.

The stadium announcer didn't help at all when he told the crowd to stop throwing snowballs, saying they had from now until April to play in the snow. Its a good thing there wasn't any wind yesterday, it was cooolllldddddddd as it was. I didn't see any any snowballs launched at the team, but the Syracuse team and cheerleaders needed to keep an eye out. The photographer snapping pictures of other folks being honored during the TV timeouts was also a target. Not real classy.

The Scout article linked above indicates he is our second WR, with Oliver being the other. I see Oliver being listed as a safety, with experience also as a running back. I looks to me like Evans is our first WR commitment. What am I missing?

He would be 2 years behind Crist in the scheme of things, so I think it would be a great pickup.
