Wouldn't have made much sense for him to jump to Michigan... Most of the existing staff was headed to the Chargers with Harbaugh and they are at substantial risk of being given substantial penalties for the sign-stealing scandal.

Pre-NIL, sure. But Uncle Phil can (and has) bought Lanning players. I don't think that Lanning is a good of an HC as people make him out to be.

Though I doubt the NCAA will throw the book at scUM, it is a possibility.
Pervasive, repeated and significant violations of NCAA Rules should be enough to do it. Their compliance office should have set up shop in the HC's Office for the remainder of the season to make sure that any additional games were not being played but it's clear that they didn't bother to even educate Harbaugh on the Rules.

This game is going to be sooooooo boring.
DJ Uigalieasdjidfsjhhnj already opted out.

Jarious Jackson was a really good one from Mississippi in the 90’s. But, yeah, pretty rare.
Ahhh.... didn't see the "since 2000" disclaimer. Anyway, the general point still stands.

Really happy to see that ND is trending well with Deuce Knight. I can't get away from being worried about him staying with ND through signing day. Both Ten & Ala have MacIntyre at the top of their QB board with Knight being next. I am worried that the loser of that battle could give Knight cause to flip if he does end up verbally committing to ND. If the decision were mine, I would think hard about the decision to take either Knight or Bachmeier. Of course I don't have the benefit of meeting with Knight in person to get a feel for his intentions.
I think that it's mostly because he's from deep SEC country. We've apparently had only 1 Mississippi recruit in our history: Notre Dame All Time Football Recruits in Mississippi (247sports.com)

Balis already had cleared out his office inside the Notre Dame football complex.
This suggests to me that it wasn't some sort of leaving to tend to the health of him or a family member situation.

Al Golden on the other hand just seems to be disinterested in recruiting particularly for '24 recruits. Hearing better reports from '25 recruits so maybe Freeman has addressed recruiting with him.
That doesn't make any sense. Why would he want to recruit for the long haul (as opposed to 2024) when he's likely to be somewhere else in 2025?
Might just be that he (or the program) didn't click with 2024 recruits from his recruiting territory/positions of focus.

That part isnt true. He had a very strong spring.
Doesn't mean that he would have been a starter. He doesn't strike me as the type that is willing to work his way to the top over a couple of years.

IF he were to come, I'd imagine a healthy dose of humility and get your shit together would need to be administered for it to work. That's just me though.
If there wasn't NIL and the portal, I would give him a second chance. But he seems like he's the type that will bolt after the next round of bidding.
Probably realized that he was down the depth chart at Oklahoma after being The Man at his small town high school.

Did we get a buyout from Alabama for Rees? Why isn't that being used as a funding source?

schools aren't paying them, its the boosters/companies/etc.
I said this earlier but schools are coming up with creative ways to facilitate NIL for sponsors that is indirect compensation of players. E.g., BYU airs commercials on the jumbotron during basketball game stoppages with BYU player endorsements. Substantively, that's BYU paying an athlete.

Off the top of my head: Tee Shepherd, Eddie Vanderdoes, Aaron Lynch, Gunner Kiel, Danny Mattingly, Elijah Hood, Deontay Greenberry, Deion Walker, Omar Hunter, Chris Harper, Knox, Robert Beal, Demetris Robertson.
Fewer turned out: Alex Anzalone, Taylor Decker, Ronald Darby, Aaron Lynch.
Help me out if I'm missing any.
Chris Little (UGA-OT-Bust) and Greg Little (UNC-WR-NFL 2nd Rd Pick) both flipped on NSD 2007.

I'm all for the players getting their piece of the pie, but I can't imagine being a coach trying to field a good team and not knowing who is coming or going from one day to the next.
NCAA needs to reinstate the transfer policy that requires sitting out 1 year (except for grad transfers). Major NIL money won't be thrown at projects by boosters.

ND's NIL Collectives could also have an impact on ND players staying. My understanding is that every ND football player (including walk-ons) gets something from the ND associated collectives. As a result, most back-up players who transfer will probably not get the same amount of NIL money from their new school.
What an inefficient way to dole out NIL money! The Bruce Heggies of the world already get a full ride that ND isn't going to take away.

Why would he do that? He loses out on a semester of practicing with his new team.

Are Ohio St fans funding NIL due to Michigan's success?

Fortunately, the COVID year is going to start disappearing so that should reduce the number of 6th/7th/8th years who already have degrees but aren't good enough for NFL, who are just lingering around for a pay day that is more than a first year employee salary. Now they just need to fix the transfer rules.
