  2. The similarity between the timing of Hawaii's disappearance and the downfall of his hero EG (and its resulting, awful consequences for ND) are perhaps something that cannot be overlooked. Pride, disillusionment, confusion, depression. Sometimes it's hard to pick yourself up off the canvas when you've invested so much in the build-up. The latest board swing from Golson to Zaire (even by Oklahoma) doesn't go a long way to right such a situation either. PS: Maybe this will provoke a response from him......... ....:spider:....:spider:....
  3. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/11596217/davaris-daniels-notre-dame-fighting-irish-says-academic-investigation-process-unfair Can't believe this hasn't been posted (dated Sept 26). I checked twice and couldn't find it. If already posted, my apologies. .........:spider:.....:spider:.......
  4. +100 !!!!!!!! ,,,,,:spider:,,,,,,,:spider:,,,,,,,
  5. Congrats GG!!:first: Your UCF pick was the pick of the tourney. Turned everything around for you. Brilliant pick. Having said that, you should thank your lucky stars that Ark State pulled out that td in the last minute. Ball State wins and WPE wins. WPE was one minute away from victory. You better hope FSU comes through tonight. Lotsa luck!!!!!:thumb: ,,,,,,,,,,,:spider:,,,,,,,:spider:,,,,,,,,
  6. Sure as hell glad you didn't pick Houston......... (goes to show you why you're where you are and I'm where I am...) Go Irish! ,,,,,:spider:,,,,,:spider:,,,,,
  7. GG - The way it looks now, WPE will most likely go with the favorites, which means if one of the underdogs wins and you've selected that underdog, you will win the contest. One would suspect Ball State has the best chance of winning so, personally, I wouldn't touch that game. So the choice comes down to Houston or Auburn. Of the two, Houston obviously has the better chance (Go DG!!!) so, if it was me, I'd go with them. But the choice is yours since you've earned it. (You could also pick all three favorites and walk off with Runner Up if that's what you want and they all win, but I get the feeling you're willing to gamble to get the big prize. Which is certainly what I'd do as well. But it is a long shot - though not so long with Houston. I'm very curious to see what you will do. The point is, if all the favorites win and WPE selects them, it's his ball game no matter what you do. So, if you want to grab the top spot, you've got to win with a dog. Good luck GG. If Houston wins, I get screwed with my Vandy pick, but I'll still probably get into the top ten. But if it means you win the prize, for your sake I'll be rooting for Houston if you pick them (for that matter, I'll be rooting for any underdog you pick!!!) So far we've got four in the top eight. Not bad at all. Go Irish!!! ,,,,,,:spider:,,,,,,:spider:,,,,,,,
  8. I didn't include the Mustipher evaluation because he will undoubtedly redshirt and everything Rivals points out is easily coachable. By the time he hits the field he'll be fine. Brent OTOH is a far greater need and is obviously far more developed at this point in time, so this is definitely good news. ,,,,,:spider:,,,,:spider:,,,,,:spider:,,,,,
  9. From Rivals (free): The second annual Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge presented by Under Armour took place last weekend in Chicago with more than 100 of the top prospects in the country competing in drills, one-on-ones, 7-on-7 and the Big Man Challenge. As always, many players raised their stock while others dropped. The Rivals.com staff breaks them down. WR Justin Brent, Indianapolis (Ind.) Speedway: When we saw Brent live for the first time a year ago, he was raw but the physical tools were evident. Following a strong junior campaign, we made him a four-star prospect. After last weekend, though, it is obvious there is nothing raw about Brent's game now. He is a polished, dynamic pass catcher who can stretch the field vertically and is even more dynamic in the short and intermediate passing game. http://notredame.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1515846
  10. So, DJ, why don't you correct the spelling of the thread title????????? ,,,,,:spider:,,,,,,:spider:,,,,,,:spider:,,,,,,
  11. A completely overlooked ability that no one ever speaks about is the sense of security that Tommy has been able to give to Brian Kelly. Through all the ups and downs that BK has had to endure as the head of this topsy-turvy Irish roller coaster, BK has always been sure of Tommy to be there when called, to keep his head on straight, help teach and inspire teammates in need and just be ready to give himself to the desires of his coach and demands of his team. This has meant a great, great deal to BK, who thus has a tremendous appreciation of Tommy. Edit: Before anyone pounces, he also handled his brush with the law with strength, humility and style.
  12. With all due respect to the coaching knowledge of you and Hawaii (and I'll let II slide here for the moment), practice is practice, game time is game time. Kelly gave Martin the offense so he could work with the qbs. Rather than just throwing him into the water and saying "swim," let Tommy start and see how our offense is flowing against their defense. Watch how Kelly and Malik are with each other, Kelly pointing out what's going on, what's right, what's not right. Let Malik understand the concept, the schemes, what Kelly wants, what he's been talking about in practice. But now it's for real. This is what's happening right in front of their eyes. This is how we want to go about it. Then when it's time for Malik, he goes in with a whole lot more understanding about this particular game. This is not film watching. This is game day watching. Go in knowing what your coach wants in this particular situation. And go in when you've seen what's working and how to attack. Helluva lot easier that way (to say nothing of the score line). Helluva lot more efficient. Much better for the self-confidence as well. ,,,,,:spider:,,,,,,:spider:,,,,,:spider:,,,,,
  13. I highly doubt Kelly will start Malik for Temple. There's no reason to do that. Tommy will start. When we get up by 17-21, he'll probably go with MZ. No reason to put unnecessary pressure on Malik. He's going to have enough opening game butterflies to deal with. Let him come in and get his feet wet when we're comfortably ahead. That way freshmen mistakes won't hurt him. Let him be as comfortable as possible for his first game. MIchigan is another story. I have no idea what's going to happen. I suppose if MZ lights up the house against Temple, Kelly might spot him here or there, depending on the score. This game is going to be a tough one vis-a-vis qbs. Neither one of them is going to pull this one out. If we win, it will be because of the defense and the run. If we lose, it's because UM stops the run. As for MZ, Kelly's biggest concern here is to keep him unharmed. Good chance he won't play at all, unless we're being steamrolled. Or maybe the last few series or so, but this ain't MZ's game. Too many things can go wrong for him here. He's much too valuable for Kelly to send him to the lions in his second game. Having said that, he played EG last year, so what do I know? Like I said, this is one game I can't figure out. Purdue's another story yet again. See the Temple game. Purdue is stronger than Temple, but I expect MZ to be used again by Kelly. How much depends on the score and how effective the running game is at that point in the schedule, but I could see him getting a good chunk of playing time here. Purdue is a good team - better than a lot of people think. Not a great team, to be sure, but good enough to push Malik much more than Temple. I do hope conditions allow him to play a lot against Purdue because I believe this game could be a very valuable learning experience for him. What happens at Mich State all depends on how well MZ has performed the first three weeks. Also how Tommy has performed the first three weeks. And how well the running game has progressed the first three weeks (one of the characteristics of this upcoming season for ND will be the host of questions - and chances - that will be facing Kelly week after week. It's really a crapshoot in so many ways with all the unknowns that he will have to deal with. He's definitely going to earn his spots - and $$$$ - this year). There's no way we can figure out how well Tommy's short passing game will mesh with the running game. I expect Tommy to be better than ever, don't expect him to have that many turnovers (although handing off to a bunch of new, green runners could cause its share of problems), but the key to offsetting the lack of downfield passing will be Martin's balancing of run and pass. That could certainly throw off defenses. There's tremendous potential in the running game but at this point it's only potential, highly unknown potential. The Michigan State game should tell us a lot about where this team will be heading, as well as where the qbs will be heading, although at this point, it's impossible to figure out any reasonable conclusions, given all the variables that are and will be at work through those first four games. As for Oklahoma, they're certainly beatable, if we've got a team that's on somewhat solid footing at that point. ,,,,,:spider:,,,,,,,:spider:,,,,,,,:spider:,,,,,
