Why….because people are aching to walk across campus in blistering winds with lake effect snows and a love scene where “hot” Is rarely in the vocabulary unless you’re talking about the football players themselves….?

We simply don’t offer what many other schools do, so it’s hard for me to feel entitled to a “higher level of recruit” and not ready to develop projects.  Don’t forget…Notre Dame has more than it’s share of burdens for guys looking to play football and have a good time.

It’s still Notre Dame. They’re one of the most recognizable brands in all of American sports. I understand ND is going to struggle pulling kids from public HS out of the SEC footprint, but they can get better recruits than Iowa.

I dont care that it is called a HBCU either, I care that it is a FCS team and ND is breaking a huge tradition that many are proud of and most other schools cannot share.

What tradition? They’ve played Rice and UNLV in recent years. That’s not much better than an FCS team.

It won’t matter if it was an HBCU or one of the Dakota schools. ND should never be playing an FCS team. If they lose only one game next year, only having 11 games against FBS schools will come into play with the committee.

They would have been better off playing a good Mountain West or Sun Belt school.  Hell TN St isn’t even a good FCS fball school.  Football should not be about anything but playing a competitive schedule to have a shot at the playoff.

That means they would have beaten two top 10 teams, they’re in at that point.

Yup, one of the best arguments ND had to fight the "13th data point" was that the other schools faced a FCS opponent, so it really was not 13 games.

I just hate ND lower their standards to play a FCS school simply because of racial pandering...

Pandering for what? This is the same level as a Rice or UNLV. I really don’t care that it’s an HBCU, but they play 3 top 10 teams in the regular season. That makes up for no 13th data point.

It's not pandering if they believe in what they're doing. The school has a long history of participating in the civil rights movement (Fr. Ted with MLK, students fighting the Klan when they tried to parade through South Bend).

I didn't know of Tennessee State until they announced the game. So, it has already raised their profile by one person.

Yes, ND is participating in aiding Civil Rights by kicking the living s**t out of TN St in football. I don’t really care one way or the other but people making a big deal of this are dumb.

A schedule with Ohio St, USC and Clemson is plenty tough enough to put them in the playoff if they go 11-1.

I never mentioned who recruited Alt, moot point.  HH has recruited and developed OL who have been very successful.  Given Alt's bloodlines and measurables I'd wager HH would've recruited him too.  Who knows.

Pan out, what's your definition?  Most of DI football is composed of 3* type of recruits, so naturally there are lots of successes and failures due to the sample size.

Notre Dames problem has not been OL going back to TW and his massive under recruiting of the position then.  OL and TE will always be the strength of our offense and recruiting.  Recruit 4 OL on average each year, that's 16 bodies in the room, and you figure out who's your best 5 to be on the field.  You act like everyone who's not a 5* is a complete waste of time.

I've watched Iowa churn out great OL who were 3* the last 20+ years.  Sure they get some higher rated kids, but they don't live and die by star power they do it from the development front.

That’s bc Iowa has no choice but to develop, ND should be able to get a higher level of recruit.

You feel the same way 3 years ago with Fischer v Alt?  Lambert may be really good and they are recruiting him, but we still need to get quality depth.

Its early, rankings change, kids blow up, etc.  Nothings certain until signing day.

I’m tired of Alt being used as an example. First off, he’s a Quinn recruit. 2nd, you only hear about the 3* who pan out, you never hear about the ones who never see the field. It skews everyone’s perspective into thinking it’s more common than it actually is.

It's a position that can only be great with a strong front seven in terms of QB pressure and run stop without too much 2nd level help.  And I think the defense is stronger than last year at this time, so I'm hopeful.  Ultimately, I'm glad he's back, and looking forward to all of those guys developing.

I agree, it would make some sense that we see a corner move over, too.

Tucker or Lewis would be the 2 likely candidates.

I like Barnes or Riley moving over. Barnes has great size and length. I was also impressed with him in practice clips and I know he cross trained.

Riley is another candidate, however I have not seen or heard a peep about him since he stepped on campus.

Tucker is the only Soph DB who will likely be back. The other 2 didn’t even make the trip to the Bowl game.

Past injuries and would he be healthy. He is absolutely a top prospect if healthy. ND appeared to go with the sure thing and a solid player in their eyes.

The sure thing who barely exists on the field. Dumb, take the chance on Catalon. No more hanging on to underachieving tryhards from the previous Administration. Brown, Kiser, Marist, Baker, Carmody can all go. They’re not needed.

He better be. Can’t let him get away.

Our S scheme is a bit mixed (not really straight FS and SS). And bleeds between S and NB.

I have no clue how the S depth chart looks in September, but I'd guess we'll see some change.

    Obvious returning guys - Brown/Watts/Henderson

Transfers - Harper was listed S at OSU, but played a hybrid NB/S position. He could be either NB or S in 23. I like him at NB, but skinny. He can pattern match in verts, so wouldn't be shocked if he's a S in our scheme. Chatter is we're still looking for more Ss.....

Frosh - both likely will need time, but both will get looks. Both have great traits.

Position swap (from CB) - IMO, our CB room will be crowded. Perhaps Riley, Barnes, or Tucker jumps from CB to S. I'd bet at least one does...

that’s not a good Safety room. Henderson & Brown are good enough to be starters on a legit title contender.
