  1. Impact of NIL on ND:

I think it's a wash.  Most teams that are any good are going to offer a lot of NIL money.  My guess is that the money is probably pretty equal at the bigger football schools, ND being one of those.  With the portal being what it is, players can come and go and still get paid.

    Impact of NIL on me:

Hate it.  I had 3 kids that I paid full price to get degrees from expensive name-brand schools, including a Masters at ND.  I work hard for the money, so hard for it honey, but no one treats me right.  I HATE that players can make hundreds of thousands of dollars and still get their tuition paid, while hard-working families pay full freight for their kids to go to the school.  I'm a little hot under the sports collar about that.

I get that it's the way of the world.  I just wish the generous alumni who fund NIL would instead fund scholarships.  That wouldn't help the team, but it sure would help a lot of people.  The team and school can find a way.  Individual families may not.

The only sport where I’m a fan of transgender players playing with actual women is basketball.  Let’s see some dunks…  Viewership would certainly go up and then, women might actually sign contracts worth more than $75k per year with the additional advertising revenue and audience….  Just sayin’…. 🤣🤣🤣

    Dunks would be awesome!

  3. I know it's the way the recruiting world works, but it still disturbs me a little that we adults have such interest in kids who are still just sophomores in high school.  I do appreciate, however, that ND seems to be much more active in all of this than under the last guy.  What was his name again?  Seems to have escaped me...

LA RB James Simon: He visited, but I would expect him to stay south. An OV would be very intriguing.

NV WR Derek Meadows: ND is in a great position, will OV in June.

IL WR Talyn Taylor: Eliminated him, he seems interested elsewhere.

FL WR Jayvan Boggs: Had a fantastic visit and plans to return, arrow up.

TX WR Tanook Hines: Had a fantastic visit and plans to return, arrow up.

FL WR Raiden Vines-Bright: Committed to Washington, eliminated.

MD WR Vernon Allen: Eliminated him, ND is pushing elsewhere.

MO OL Jack Lange: Eliminated him, ND had 3 OL commits and he had work to do.

IN DL Damien Shanklin: Eliminated him, he had work to do.

NJ DL Darren Ikinnagbon: Committed to Georgia, eliminated.

KS DL Juju Marks: Eliminated him, ND is not pursuing and some are pursuing him at OL.

KY DL Javeon Campbell: Eliminated him, he moved on.

CA LB Madden Faraimo: Had a fantastic visit and plans to return, arrow up.

CA LB Noah Mikhail: Scheduling OVs and ND is not one right now, I think he likely stays west.

FL LB Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng: Long haul here, no clue at the moment, but I think ND can get an OV.

FL LB Gavin Nix: He should schedule OVs soon and shed light on his real interests. He love every school he visited it seemed.

FL CB Dallas Golden: ND still in a good position.

CA CB Chuck McDonald: ND in a solid position and will get an OV, he probably stays west though.

IN CB Mark Zackery IV: This will be interesting to see how long he takes his recruitment out, ND in strong position.

OK CB Trystan Haynes: Had a fantastic visit and plans to return, arrow up.

NJ CB Jahmir JosephNo idea, not sure ND is pursuing at all.

NC S Jadon Blair: Had a fantastic visit and plans to return, arrow up, but it will be a battle.

GA ATH Dalen Penson: Supposed to camp in June, will know more then if it happens.

MD ATH Brandon Finney: Eliminated him, ND is not pursuing.

OL Josh Petty was added and visited. A return OV is very possible right now. ND has work to do at DL to find at least one more, plenty of time though.

    Great update.  Thanks!

  5. CJ and Angeli almost look like opposites in terms of decision-making.
CJ seems to hold on to the ball, forsaking the short throw and always looking for the down field throw.
Angeli seems to look deep for a brief second then opt for the short throw.

  6. Minchey has a good arm and can run. His decision-making needs work though. Carr looks like the complete package. Good arm, nice touch, good decision-making.  He might be relying a little too much on his arm though. Certainly throws into so tight spots. You have to like what you see in him.

  7. ND games used to always rank very high in the ratings.  Seems like they forever had one of their games in the top two or three in total viewership in any year.  But apparently, not anymore.  At least, not in 2023.

    https://footballscoop.com/news/the-50-most-watched-games-of-the-2023-college-football-regular-season

Of the top 50 most-watched games (before playoffs and bowls), ND played in 4.  The OSU game was #5 on the list, USC was #25 and the Duke and Louisville games were further down.

ND needs to start winning the games that draw the most eyes.  They were 2-2 in their 4 top-50 games, and 0-1 in the one that really mattered.  It will be next to impossible to remain independent unless they win those big games (and even if they do start winning those big games).

Hidalgo is pretty amazing.  I don't watch a lot of women's basketball, but when I have watched, she just does everything.  The women's team is on a serious roll, and it's nice to see it.

With all this news, when does everyone expect Notre Dame Football to win a National Championship?

I’m going to say by the 2025-2026 season.

Saban and Harbaugh leaving certainly opens up possibilities.  Georgia, to me, seems like the only certain conference champion.  ND has favorable schedules over the next several years.  Keep recruiting at this level, keep getting optimal transfers, and keep a solid coaching staff, you may be right!

    On3 Consensus: 3-star, #532 overall, #86 WR

    247: 3-star, #56 WR

    Rivals: 3-star

    On3: 3-star, #79 WR

Offers: Auburn, Boston College, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Oregon, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, USC, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Wisconsin

If you took his 'ranking' and stars out of it and just looked at the offer list, I think everyone would be happy a guy chose ND over USC, Michigan, Oregon, Penn State, Auburn, and Tennessee.

Not a change, but Golden signed a 4 year extension. Love this move with him and Denbrock

4 years!?! He must really like his gig. Is it typical for an OC or DC to get that length contract?

I watched some of the highlights, and yes, they did show her more than twice. Really though, I was being sarcastic. 😜

I guess since it doesn’t bother me, I didn’t notice it like it does all of you “football fans” over here.  I find it funny that you’re talking to me like I’m not a football fan. But I guess you don’t think so because I’m okay with all the Swifty stuff. 😂

But here’s the thing, I actually love it because it gets my daughter interested in the game, when she wasn’t before. She’s a big Siwfty fan. My wife and I think it’s cute, and she’ll start asking us questions about the game and actually watches it.

The other thing is it doesn’t affect the game at all. Swift is also the biggest and most talented female artist of this generation, who just so happens to date one of the best, and current record breaking in a lot of categories and now 3x SB Champ, Travis Kelce. All Swift is doing is celebrating because of her awesome boyfriend winning! Not her fault they want to show her. They are of course going to capitalize on it, because it brings in new viewers that will replace us one day.

    It’s smart business!

And her brother went to Notre Dame.

And she went to a few home games and had to be on the sideline since it would have been too disruptive fore her to be in the stands.

And, I love her music and pretty much everything she is about.  By all reports just a terrific person, principled, with very good music.  I am generations removed from her, but truly appreciate her.

I think I like her more than I like the NFL.  And I've been watching the NFL a long time.  It would be financial malpractice for the NFL not to optimize their relationship with her.  She is only shown on TV when KC is playing.  KC has the single best QB in all of football, a 3 time Super Bowl MVP winner, so they will be on TV often.  If she stays with Kelce, great.  If not, great.  I'll tune in to watch Mahomes any time, any network.  Dude is special.  If they show her for 25 seconds total out of a 3+ hour game, fine.

Back on topic, though, congrats to both Banks and Tranquil.  Too bad only one could go home with the trophy.

  14. It's a class that, barring transfers, will have a lot of long-term, big-time contributors, I think.  Some top-line performers, and many who will get plenty of playing time as good depth pieces.  The transfer portal always beckons, but I think this class helps fill some substantial holes.

The moment the Lions decided to go for it instead of make it a 3 score game, it felt that that would come back to haunt them.

They had this game and threw it away with their second half approach.

I think it all fell apart when Reynolds didn't catch the ball in his hands on the 4th down play.  Catch that ball and it's an entirely different game.  Then he followed that up by dropping the ball that hit him in stride in the chest for what would have been a certain first down on the third and 10 a series or two later.  To me, that was the issue.  I think Campbell was doing the right thing.  Players gotta play, and Reynolds let them down big big time on those two plays.

I wonder if ND used this type of information on recruits during the Junior Weekend.  ND seems to be on top of this in that they have the information and that they present and promote the information effectively.
