With the latest addition of Ben Turk to help our special teams woes, Notre Dame will find out shortly whether or not to expect another top kicker. Dustin Hopkins has been reported to have been told, that Notre Dame would wait until this coming Monday for him, after which the offer would then go out to another fine kicker, Nicholas Tausch.
So onward our recruiting train goes, with quality pick-ups thus far. So why would so many young recruits want to come to our tiny beloved school after such an abysmal season? Probably the same reason they flocked to south central L.A. during the late 90’s, the light at the end of the tunnel can be more than seen now, it can be felt. A team is developing here in South Bend and isn’t going unnoticed. With Dayne Crist calling recruits and congratulating them, and guys like Gary Gray offering up academic praise, recruits are finally feeling that distinguishing emotion which is luring them to the Bend. Without even visiting, they pledge their intent while others scurry about to schedule an official so as not to be left behind.
“These are the days”, a classic song written by Van Morrison, kind of captures this train ride which seems to be picking up speed. Help is on the way, which should encourage any naysayer. It’s coming as a team, not as individual stars, but as a unified team. With that being said, I want to thank a very special person in my life, my father. He always taught me the importance of teamwork and always showed me with his actions. Thanks dad! A lot of these players that we get are being urged by their fathers to make a forty-year decision, and I want to thank them too.
