irishwavend 562
How do people feel about their energy spent being angry about not hiring Luke…? Waste of time and wish you waited until the final result or still a bit disappointed and still holding on to some resentment…? Honest question…no judgment. I’m personally happy with the hire and like my new perspective - ignore this crap until we know the end result.

They tried for an A+ candidate for OL coach and did not get him and money did not seem to be an issue. Missing out on Ludwig as OC with Jack stubbing his toe on getting the buyout amount wrong being a contributing factor, yes there was anger there.

It's a complex scheme involving the QB not being on his backside and holes my slow old fat ass can run through. 😁

jimbo 376
Yes this is a good hire by MF. I don’t see much distance between Joe Rudolph and Matt Luke. I’d be fine with either one of them.
ND_JACK 321
I think it was a great hire especially after reading the attached article. I think him and Gino will greatly help our first yearOC. https://247sports.com/college/notre-dame/Article/BREAKING-Joe-Rudolph-Expected-to-Be-Named-Notre-Dame-Offensive-Line-Coach-205409341/?utm_source=247Sports%20Newsletter&utm_medium=Newsletter&utm_campaign=230227_152055_NotreDameFightingIrish&utm_content=Link&eid=36991d70b23acc6cb3c1a30bbcf27ade931abc7196155427c873eec10fe2e5e6

Inside, outside, split zone and stretch.
irishwavend 562
If I were looking at this resume, I’d ask why he went to VaTech despite being “associate head coach” at Wisconsin, only to leave after one year to go to ND. And, why did the article above exclude any discussion of his productivity at VT…? Poor writing…or is there a reason. He seems great, but you have to slightly wonder…wasn’t Chryst an o-line guy, so hopefully, Rudolph wasn’t riding his coattails in the shadow of Chryst. It seems to be a stretch asking these questions…but you never know completely until you see the product on the field. Why VT…?
Jersey Irish 205
There really isn't anyone quite like Heistand, but Rudolph is as close to a clone as ND could ever hope to find. He's got 20 years experience at top colleges and has not only coached the offensive line but also TE's and has been an OC!

Rudolph was demoted from OC to just OL coach and asked to take a pay cut at Wisconsin.
Wharton70 89
jbrown - the Wisconsin exit also struck me as a possible red flag... but given the OL success there and at Pitt I think that this is his best role, and potentially a very good addition. He may have just peter principled as OC. For additional context, I pulled these down Humorous article from2018: Immovables Feast: Wisconsin's Outstanding O-Line Is Built by Red Robin https://www.si.com/college/2018/08/08/wisconsin-badgers-offensive-line-red-robin-jonathan-taylor#gid=ci0254f40df0002580&pid=beau-benzschawel-rg-wisconsinjpg More serious article from 2020, also from SI https://www.si.com/nfl/packers/news/is-wisconsin-the-new-o-line-u Is Wisconsin the New O-Line U?
