One injury away from being the starter no matter where you are...ย  moving forward...ย  will we see Buckner starting next year?ย  Or will a transfer (Hartman) take over...ย

If transfer takes over....does Buchner start his final year?ย  Giving minchy another year to develop?ย

Wonder how that scenario plays out with Carr coming ...if he lives up to the hype

What does everyone think?

good problem 2 have, rather have 2 qbs than 0 but Buchner just showed the nation he's nobody's backup.

I donโ€™t think he has.

In this day of NIL, Iโ€™m hopeful that Hartman is at ND, but I donโ€™t know that I would bank in it anymore the way things have gone. Buchner is an injury away, and probably still has a package for him next year if Hartman does come.

I wouldnโ€™t mind keeping him and using him in the red zone and other situations with the zone read. When he really sold the fake, he was lethal.ย

Hats off to Buchner, he played his heart out, but Hartman is the guy to lead this team. I just donโ€™t trust Buchner when he drops back to throw.ย

I donโ€™t know about nobodyโ€™s backup. He did have 3 picks and was barely above 50% completion against a depleted SC secondary. ย He would be a good backup and insurance policy next season.ย

I think he stays and Reese has a package for him and will battle it out with Minchey in โ€˜24. Assuming Mincheyโ€™s shoulder heals.ย

he'll be someone elses starter soon if he doesn't play, and thats fine.

My guess is he starts his last year at ND...ย  unless minchy is just that good...ย  im not sure where Angeli is...ย  or how he fits into any conversation...ย  ย he could be a red hat bearer for duration. Lol...

I don't know.ย  Lot of ifs going on.ย  The big if is whether Hartman comes.ย  IF he does than let spring practice sort things out.ย  Iron sharpens iron.ย

I hope TB12 stays regardless of the outcome.ย  As mentioned you're an injury away from being the guy.ย  He still has a ways to go as far as being a QB, I think he could learn some from Hartman as far as passing etc, agai. Iron sharpens iron.ย  I believe he will get a fair amount of play next season in mop up because we are leading every game ๐Ÿ˜, and situationally.ย  If Hartman plays one, TB12 could still be the man his last year.

IDK... one play... he's bad...ย

next play... he's great...ย

He'll need a very productive offseason (improvement) if he wants to start in 2023.ย

I thought he played well but also showed some rust. The first INT was not his fault He made difficult throws, but was a little excited early on and over threw some passes.

He has a shot to play again, I see him staying in 2023 and being the backup to Hartman (if he comes) and then he has good shot of being the starter in 2024.

Man, is this guy a conundrum or what? The deep ball to Lenzyโ€ฆ fading back in the pocket and throws a dime to Lenzy on his back foot with a man in his face. Pyne canโ€™t make that throw. He threw a beautiful crossing route on third down with a man in his face. The two TD runs were Wimbush-esque.ย
ย

The first pick was tipped, but I think the reason it was tipped was because of his wonky throwing motion (boy, is it ugly!). As others have mentioned, he pushes the ball and it greatly impacts his accuracy. This isnโ€™t comparable to Phillip Rivers as he is throwing the ball and just releases it sidearm, Iโ€™m not sure Buchnerโ€™s motion is fixable at this point in his career. I actually thought Thomas or whoever he flipped it to on the second INT should have caught it. Third pick should have never happened, a terrible decision from Buch and an even worse call from Rees.ย
ย

I think Tyler should stay at ND, get his degree, back up Hartman (fingers crossed he comes here) and learn from him. I think he might be able to develop and win the job in 2024. If not, I still think he can play a big part in the zone read game next year.ย

i think people lose sight of how little he has played. That was his first win as a starting QB since 2019. He has LOTS of growing to do

How did he show the nation he is 'nobody's backup?'ย

I donโ€™t know much about Pagets syndrome but remember IF Hartman comes he did have blood clots last year. So, who knows if that can come back or not. Also, Hartman ran that Mickey Mouse offense. Can he succeed in a pro-style? ย Can he stay healthy? ย People better not hope to push Buchner out the door that fast. Honestly, I think Buchner can improve with time. I hope he doesnโ€™t jettison to another program. He may be starting next year.ย

someone provided stats that Hartman actually did better as a dropback passer than he did in the slow-mesh offense. That is the main reason why it is believed he is transferring, so that he play in a more traditional offense.

If you over 300 total yards in a Bowl Game at ND that the nation sees. That is your business card to transfer to alot of QB needy teams if you want to.

Hahahaha.ย  perhaps in your mind. ย But in reality, thatโ€™s a delusion. ย a Hilarious delusion.ย

Why am I delusional? Interesting choice of words.

Because, when you have been as bad as Buchner has been in limited action, a single mediocre game in the taxslayer gator bowl vs South Carolina does not:

1 -'Provide you a 'business card to transfer to a lot of QB needy teams if you want to.'

2 - 'show the nation he's nobody's backup.'

He will quite literally be the backup to Hartman next year.ย  ย Lol.ย  ย And ND is a QB needy team with him on it (Thus why Hartman is coming)ย

If he stays. If Hartman comes. Lot of "Ifs" Curious. Are you younger or older than me? I'm almost 39?
