Damn. Feel sorry for the kid. Same knee as his last ACL tear.Β

Quote

On Thursday, Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman announced tight end Eli Raridon will miss the remainder of the 2022 season with a non-contact ACL injury.Β

β€œEli Raridon unfortunately will be out for the remainder of the season,” stated Freeman. "He suffered a non-contact knee injury and retore his ACL. He’ll have surgery in the next couple of days. We’ll continue to keep Dr. (Brian) Ratigan busy. Dr. Ratigan had two surgeries this week with Kevin Bauman and Bo Bauer. Here in the next week or so, he’ll do Eli Raridon.”

It’s tough news for the Irish offense as the tight end room has already lost Kevin Bauman, but likely even more frustrating for the 6-foot-6 freshman as he tore the same ACL last December.Β

Dang, makes you wonder if he should have just sat for the season. Kid looks to be a stud

That really sucks.Β  Assuming his injuries don't impact his athleticism long term, he will be the next great ND TE!Β  I had no questions about his pass catching abilities.Β  Hearing he was such a good blocker this early on told me everything I needed to know.Β  In addition to his talent, he works hard and cares about doing the dirty work.

Non contact injury.Β  So was it practice related or did he slip walking down the stairs or some dumb shit?

This is a big blow, especially since he was likely going to be the number one tight end going into next season. He’s going to miss valuable reps.Β

Remember all the injuries in 2014 after ND installed field turf? There was a study showing more non contact injuries on field turf than grass. I’ve torn an ACL and my hip labram on turf, yet never an injury while playing on grass.Β

I say we start practicing on grass, way too many non contact injuries at practice. Also, at what point do they start re-evaluating Balis?Β

Balis has been fine IMO.Β  You have spates of injuries that happen, which is a big factor every year for everyone is how healthy your team can stay.

I'm not a fan of field turf of any sort.Β  Sure it looks prettier come Oct/Nov and isn't all chewed up like grass.Β  But what's the toll taken to players bodies over the years?Β  Football is a game that forces you to have to deal with environmental and field conditions that aren't always ideal on gameday.Β  To me having to practice in adverse conditions makes you better prepared as a whole and your body remembers how to function in those as well.Β  That's just me.

Its no different IMO saying that players just go certain schools because of weather, but have aspirations of playing in the League and not understanding that Green Bay, Buffalo, etc get a little chilly come Fall/Winter.

You’re looking for an answer that’s not there. This was the same knee he blew out in HS.Β
