Chris Zorich podcast, which I didn't know Zorro had one and will have to start following.  Anyhow this episode he talks about Kelly leaving and potential candidates in a group discussion with the likes of ND greats Tim Brown, Rocket, Theisman, Wes Prichett, etc.  Great show and easily worth the two hour watch.  Anyhow I may have re-evaluated my position on Freeman as the next HC, now I really feel listening to these former greats and Tom Loy in addition to what the team and recruits are saying that Freeman seems to be the clear favorite of almost universally.  And if the rumors are true he called out BK in the meeting yesterday and the players backed him then went to the AD to campaign for MF, then I'm sold and am totally supportive of his ascension if it comes to be.  Anyhow watch the podcast its fantastic!

 

 

Any rough  idea of where that Freeman calling out story is in the podcast?

I think it was fairly early and Wes mentioned it I think.  So far its a rumor that it happened, but I've seen people talking about it on multiple sites before watching the podcast yesterday.  I imagine if its true, that it'll probably stay in house and won't be officially mentioned by anyone on the team publically.  Interesting if it did happen and gives me more respect for MF.

Well, the meeting was supposed to be at 7:00am and supposedly was seen leaving campus at 7:11am (which is where the 11 minute meeting originated), but what it sounds like was that it was a 2 minute meeting after Freeman called him out and Kelly was gone in 11 minutes.

I love this story if true. ND is not a place for your first head coaching job but the timing sucks at the moment. We need to hold this class together and this program is in such a good spot, we could gamble on Freeman for 2-3 years. 

Heard B&G has the video of the meeting?  Lasted 4 minutes. Anyone seen it?

If ND loses on that gamble, it’s a lot harder to recover than it is for a USC or Oklahoma.

Wes Prichett, right around the hour mark, nails it with Kelly and what a lot of us have said. These kids have won in spite of Kelly.

After listening to that. I am definitely on the Marcus Freeman band wagon. Promote Elston to DC and bring in a former head coach as OC and let Tommy go. Sorry Tommy

I will say that I really wanted BK after CW.  However I started to sour a bit on him after Declan's death and especially when he was job shopping while prepping for the NC game in '12.  From there it was downhill for me and my view of him thereafter, culminating in the disaster in '16 where he should have been fired.  I know he is a lazy recruiter, just a "closer", but to hear Loy say we hardly hit the big Catholic schools is egregious for Kelly.  There is zero reason we shouldn't put in the effort in those hotbeds and draw some high end recruits.  Like the greats here said, the academics argument against getting top talent is way overblown and is actually more of a crutch for lazy recruiting efforts.  If you make it a priority talent will come, see CW but recruit both sides of the ball.

Freeman puts in the time and effort and its paying dividends right away.  Now if he can coach while surrounding himself with a great staff, look out.
