My biggest takeaway is that we're not deserving of a #9 ranking right now.  Maybe later.

 

Also, there's no way I can be convinced to pay $$$ after downloading an app to watch us play Toledo next.

1.) Coan is slightly better than what we thought he was based off his career @ Wisconsin .. not the practice footage but a tall smart QB with good accuracy and average arm strength. 

2.) Our OL is not very good (again). I want to watch the game again to see where the problem is but it looks like they couldn't run block and were getting handled on pass pro. Other good teams are going to see this and tee off on the fact we don't have a mobile QB and can't get a good run game going. 

3.) Freeman's D got shredded. Trying to defend a mobile QB with a 3 man front is a bad idea; if we pinched the pocket with a 2x2 front and forced him to make uncomfortable throws from the pocket it would be been a 5 INT game. ALSO Freeman let FSU stuff it down our throat by leaving both guards uncovered and LBs 5 yards off the ball.. Can we steal Bob Diaco back from Purdue? UND clearly has good talent on D and I think they would benefit from a more vanilla scheme which allows them to use athleticism to react and make plays. 

4.) We have good, better WRs but not great.

5.) Mayer has to come up with the catches. One to extend a drive with about 4 minutes left and the other to set up a game winner in regulation. 

 

5b:) UND got hosed, absolutely hosed on those replays. There was no way they had irrefutable video evidence to overturn the call on the field. 

1. Hamilton is the real deal.....might be the best safety I've personally watched play for ND

2. The defensive line couldn't stop the run, and the offensive line couldn't run block. I'd imagine that practicing has to be brutal when the two weaknesses are working against each other. 

3. Jack Coan was asked to run a QB power on 3rd down like he was Ian Book. Some of T. Reese's play calls were mind boggling. Only one screen pass, and it was a HUGE gain.

4. Need to find Mayer some gloves with better tack. He dropped two big passes today, one with gloves and one without. He is still a monster, but get him those Odell gloves with the super tacky grip!!!

5. Horrible defense at all levels except for Hamilton. Missed tackles, out of position, getting pushed around. The linebackers played one of the worst games I've watched in a long time. Drew White looked like he never played before. 

6. If that offensive line doesn't mesh soon, I'll have a lot of free Saturdays this fall. Is Fisher injury prone?? I sure hope not, he looked like he could be the next great one.

Did you notice that he looked like he was gonna blow chunks in pregame?

I have Comcast with the Peacock app included already, but they do have an offer that's $7.50 for 3 months....

That's not bad, and you can watch Yellowstone (super awesome series)

on #4... I thought Austin was pretty special. And while limited snaps/targets, Wilkins was boss. I want to see more of him. The other guys weren't very noticeable.

1) playcalling… is this who Rees and Freeman are , or are they under orders from BK ?  

2) playing down to your opponent:  I’m sick of it, and it makes me think BK is pulling strings (point 1)

3) conditioning: this used to be our strength last year. didn’t look it tonight

4) Hamilton was a beast but 1 dumb penalty and left off the gas on the deep pass which cost us a TD

5) Dropped passes and missed tackles….

Overall, this looked like BK coached team of old. Not prepared, too soft, no adjustments, playing down to the opponent, etc. Disappointed…

No kidding!  Both Austin and Wilkins were great!  But Lenzy had one catch and Keys was a non factor!  ?

Rees had a few bad moments, but overall I thought he did well. When you're new QB has one of the best games in the nation in week 1, it can't be all that bad. Given the OL struggles, I think he was handcuffed a bit.

Wilkins is #2 behind Austin outside, but I'd like to see him go to the other side and get some #1 reps at the same time as Austin. Lenzy had 2, so not totally poo pooing him. Slot was totally non existent (Davis and Keyes). Or maybe move Wilkins to slot.
