From about the ten fights I have been in. It’s the guy who throws the first punch that usually wins. That MMA reference didn’t even matter. The guy could of ground and pounded the guy like his brother did on that back duplex guy and he would of been alright with the fight still. The rear naked choke wasn’t even necessary.

Other thoughts, everyone there should be charged. Watching a person get pummeled and filming is sickening while cheering it on. The guys that continue to ground and pound when they are clearly out, should be charged...funny he said they’ve been training since they were 12 and “did everything they could to de-escalate the situation.” Haha. Throwing the first punch isn’t de-escalating the situation. Finally, the other guys should be charged since he did throw that wimpy push to the guy. But they probably won’t since, they got beat down. Just my thoughts.

As soon as that dude threw the punch, I wondered if he was headed to jail. There was nothing there that was sufficient to provoke that response except him being charged up as an MMA guy looking for his chance to use his skill.

 

I disagree about the filming and standing around. You don't have a duty under the law to do anything to stop it or not film it. The law lets you sit there and watch. That's just the way it is. Now, if they prevented the guy's escape or something, then they'd be in trouble, but that wasn't the case. But I'm just speaking from a legal duty, not moral or ethical. Then, again, maybe there was a lot going on before that and the guy had it coming... ha.

If you watch again, the guy who threw the punch was already bloody when filming started. I’m willing to bet the OU player actually threw the first punch prior to filming.

Also, the OU player is a reserve WR and the Holder. He’s a nobody who needed to get put in his place. Good for the MMA guys.

First that’s not how the law works. Second he attacked the person in front of him not the person that shoved him. Last I’m pretty sure the fight was originally between the guy in the Jean jacket and the guy in the sweat shirt and cowboy boots. The OU player appears to be trying to break it up although very poorly. If I was a wagering man I would say 3 of the 4 are going to be charged but not the OU football player unless he actually was involved before the video started recording.

My response was not related to how this would play out in court. I was speaking in terms of street justice - if you push a guy expect to get punched.

In my college days this would have been a non-story, maybe a blurb about college football player gets in fight on page 15 of the local paper, but now that everyone walks around with a recording device the youth will have to live with their mistakes permanently stored on the internet and evidence for everything they do available to the authorities to prosecute. I swear 1984 was written by a prophet. Lol

I’m not overly religious but in this time of cancel culture and everything being recorded, I have been reflecting on the message of forgiveness more. It makes so much more sense when it’s applied today - you have to leave room for people to grow and learn from their mistakes. Yes, there should penance but you shouldn’t be punished in perpetuity for most things. You should be punished but there should also be the chance to surpass that moment as you keep growing and learning.

It appears that the video is only the second part of the story. Do you know you actually know what happened beforehand or are you just guessing? It would good to know exactly why the MMA guy was bleeding?

This 100%. A young man was seriously injured and almost became disabled in the prime of his life. Does anyone know this young man? Ever met him? Why wish this on anyone? I've been lurking around this place since 2005 and this may be the most disappointing thread I have ever seen.
