That's fair. We could compete and win versus A & M, but they finished with a win.

No. 5 is fair, man I love ND finishing in the top 10 every year now.

Agreed. There are many, many legitimate gripes one can have about the Kelly era but there can be no disagreement that getting back to being a bonafide top-10 after the doldrums of Dav-eis-ham is a great thing.

Kudos to the team. We ended with a whimper, but they played some great ball.

A&M v. UNC - 41-27

ND v. UNC - 31-17

A&M v. Bama - 24-52

ND v. Bama - 14-31

I don't get it. We have two shared opponents...we beat one by the same margin of victory and we bested UNC against Bama in terms of margin of victory. It looks like they're rewarding offense and not defense in their ranking.

I call bull****.

The shared opponent thing got us in the playoffs. Loosing 2 straight, albeit to #1 and #3, drops my beloved Irish to 5.

I just find it crazy that the best ND team in 25 years finishes ranked 5th.

I was annoyed that A&M finished higher because ND beat a fully loaded UNC and A&M beat UNC without their two 1,000 rushers and two best WRs - and they didn't even take a lead until 5 min left in the game. ND lost by less to Alabama, but they were still not competitive. I still think ND should be #4, and last night only supports that, but you're right - losing two straight, in games that were not close, killed ND. I'll take the Top 5 finish.

I thought this ND team was one of the better BK ones, but I'm not sure it's the best. There was not enough talent at WR or in the secondary. It's hard to rank 2015 above them considering they lost 3 games, including to OSU in the Fiesta, but that team was so talented. Not sure how I'd rank 2005, 2012, 2015, 2018, and 2020.

Good points but I think the results are basically the same. We're both in the "first losers" group.

Well said. I think it could have gone either way. I think we should have been 4 based on the bodies of work, but, I understand that the 2 losses have to be punished. Even if their win at the end was squeaked out against a shell of the team we beat.

And NC was bot the same team ND played without all their opt-outs and injuries and A&M struggled with them all game long!

Wait a poll was done before the bowl games and ND was #4 and Texas A&M was #5 based upon all the games played to that point. The only game that should change the ratings is that final bowl game.

In the final games:

1) ND lost to the #1 team Alabama by 17 pts . The same #1 team that beat A&M by 28 pts.

And the other game

2) A&M beats the #13 team UNC by 14 pts. The same #13 Team (UNC) ND beat by 14 pts also.

So how the hell does A&M jump ND based upon that final game.

Pete and Repeat were sitting on a boat. Pete fell off...who was left?

Its not like the final polls really mean anything anyway. As I stated in my previous comment, I get both arguments and they both have merit. However, at the end of the day finishing 4 or 5 in the final poll is negligible. We finished 4th in the poll that mattered.

I think polls matter when one team tries to say they beat #1 so and so who ended the season unranked.
