Β

Let's learn about Bama together.

Β

Over the next week, I'd like to do screenshots, stats injury report and roster study. Also a bit of gameplanning. Why? because its fun!

Β

I did not watch any Bama this year

Featured Replies

Agree it will be fun. Only watched them last night and after watching I was dreading playing both Bama and UF.

Β

However, if the D can get pressure against their OL then they don’t have to worry about a mobile QB. Then again Jones has only been sacked 4 times all year.

Β

Very interested in Hamilton’s status. Bama is going to score no doubt about it. They are averaging what 45+ per game. This will be on NDs the O to score at least in the 30s and control the time of possession. I think that will be the best way to keep Bama from scoring and have a slim chance of success.

To prepare for Bama be steeped in prayer. That is it.

Bama now has the blueprint on how to shut us down thanks to Clemson. I hope Rees and Book study the last game's film closely. I thought Book had a few escape routes that he didn't see that could have avoided some sacks and given him a chance to get into the open field.

Last year , when attending games was still possible,

We’d have regular feedback from posters at the game saying how Book would miss open receivers on almost every play.

Β

From my screen, what i can see is that most pass plays seem like a strenuous exercise. They usually take time to develop, with Book often needing to squirm/move/scramble.

Β

I can’t fathom this is coaching/play calling. If it is, then shame on BK and Rees for not simplifying/ shortening the passing game.

Β

Others this season have critiqued the receivers instead, not getting open, etc.

Don’t know about that. Again, seeing highlights from other games this week ( like Bama/ FL), saw plenty of short routes / slants. Maybe our game plan is too complex?

Β

I might be crazy but it always seems like ND tries to be too cute/ fancy on its plays. Is it Book ignoring the easy play? Making life hard on himself? Or is it playcalling?

Β

Either way, it doesn’t work. OL should be frigging mauling/ dominating, which would open the play action/ short slants/ screen game.

Enough of the cute pass play/ jet sweep / WR β€œscreen” crap that fail and turn to 3rd and a prayer. It doest work with top teams. Didnt w/ Clemson , won’t with Bama

Β

I know we can do it. Hell , Rees ran that kind of Offense to a win against USC in 2010...

They start in a 3-4-4 defense

Β

Patrick Surtain is a notable corner

This formation had some promise for A & M early

Β

1st down was a stretch play wide side

2nd down they play action passed with a bootleg to the h-back in the flat

I have this weird feeling that their margin of victory over us is going to be smaller than that of Clemson....

reasonable.

Β

Yards are pretty heavily distributed between RB Harris, QB Mac Jones and WR Davanta Jones.

Β

Which means if we can slow any 1 of them down, the game could be closer.

Β

Clemson yardage distribution was a little wider meaning they share the ball between more people.

Β

Not that Bama can't choose someone else but at we know who they are choosing most.

Saban for years has made his reputation on 3rd down. He himself coaches defensive backs(or used too) and EXPECTS them to win on 3rd down in press man coverage

Β

Here Bama brought 5 and got an incompletion to force a FG attempt

zemaniak, you nailed it. This is just what has bothered me about Kelly's offense (and it is HIS offense - read ego) since he got here. He has to be the brightest guy in the room (cute plays) and is incredibly stubborn (define insanity). As a result is normally out coached, wastes talent, and is schooled by better coaches (Saban, Meyer, Sweeney). That said, he has done great things for the program, and is a major upgrade from the 1997 - 2009 circus.

Β

Bama has some young safeties. Talented but young. In a Smash or what I call a switch route for my own mind. The outside receiver stops short and the inside receiver goes deep.

Β

Safeties will often freeze or take a miss step when the slot fakes to the inside post and then switches to a corner route down the sideline. Florida had its first score on this.

Β

Book will need pass protection and a good route from Avery Davis or Lenzy to make that work.

First, come up with every schematic and motivational plan possible.

Β

On paper, bama is better.

Β

I would try to be unpredictable on offense. If ND tries to run on most 1st downs, it won't work. Book is going to need to be comfortable throwing to his big TEs & WRs even when they don't necessarily appear to be open. Let them go up and win the jump ball.

Β

The defense can't miss tackles. One of my football pet peeves is defenders going for high tackles/knock out blows. Miss those and you give up a big play. Whatever happened to wrapping the waist/legs and twisting to the ground like everyone is taught!

I think we cover and Book will probably get baited into some poor decision late to seal it as they're going to keep him in the pocket and force him to pick them apart in the secondary (good luck).

Β

Section 133 tomorrow. Go Irish.

I think ND has to double Smith, if Harris kills you on the ground so be it.

Β

Stop the pass first?

Β

That's something I've never heard before.. Let them gouge you on the ground so your team is completely exhausted by the 2nd half.. Make sure to double their #1 target tho!
