What do we have? Payne... Clark... We didn't play them much in garbage time this year. Most were hand offs. I was begging for some throws from Payne tonight but nothing. Undefeated Season this year. Is next year a "rebuilding year" with many OL leaving and no experienced QB???

Feels like transfer portal is an option. Because this is Phil's spot they are playing for ND could bring a transfer to fill Phils spot as well. We know Buchner will likely have the roster spot left by book. Of course he's starts 4th but could move up

Not to knock you Speedster, but that fact you think ND's second QB is Drew "Payne" when it's "Pyne" says everything you are trying to say.

ND needs a QB next year if they want any chance of going back to the playoff. To rely on any of those guys would be foolish.

I'd bring in a transfer, Milton seems like a perfect fit, and if one of ND's guys beats him out, that'd be great. Otherwise it gives them all another year to develop.

Is Drew Pyne really only 5’11”? Given that our OL is typically massive in height, this could be a problem.

Yes, he looks tiny out there. I wouldn’t be shocked if he was actually closer to 5’9 or 5’10.

I think they should definitely explore the transfer portal but if not, roll with Buchner.

Definitely NOT......Maybe the OL won’t be as good as this year but Mark my words the OL will be good next year. And the defense will continue to be strong. We’ll unfortunately just be missing the most important part of the machine....we’ll need a decent QB.

We should have an excellent RB core and WR core next year with what we have now and incoming freshman. We need a decent QB to keep the program rolling.

Pyne and Clark are both capable of managing games with a good defense and running game. Buchner has the highest ceiling but without playing out his senior year, he likely will need time to develop. Pyne has a very quick release and Clark seems to have both Ian and Drew beat in terms of arm strength.

I won't have a problem with any of those three being our leader next year, but would also take Milton or Dillon McCaffrey if they wanted to come and compete for the job.

Exactly right! I also doubt Buchner will be ready in two years. He would had missed a full year of highschool and then only one year of learning a new college playbook. Also, the struggles of being a freshman at ND. I'm not saying it can't be done, I'm just thinking it's unlikely. Pyne, Clark or a transfer are going to have to hold down the fort for the next two year. Which is why I was clamoring for BK to get the back-up qb's some reps.

Milton has not played since November 2018. McCaffrey seems like a no brainer.

Why not Book?

Call me crazy, but I just don’t see him being drafted. He’s playing well and his stock would never be higher but I don’t see that being enough.

I guess If it were me and I’d have to choose between being king dingaling at ND as the starting quarterback for another year or maybe being a long shot to make a NFL roster or practice squad, I’d pick ND.

Why not Book?

He’s already in his fifth year of school, he’s moving on regardless.

While 2020 covid rules would allow him to return for a 6th year, he has accepted an invite to the Senior bowl. This indicates he intends to pursue the NFL draft, I wish him the best and could totally see him having a long career as a #2 behind a good QB.

I agree and feel the same way. I don’t think his stock will ever get higher and I don’t think he’d ever be more than a backup.

Come back, set more records and compete for another Natty. You’ve got to think being the qb at ND has tons of perks, and at worse he might not be playing any football in 8 months.

I hope he reconsiders, however all signs point to him leaving.

Not so fast, my friend...

Covid rules but he’s gone regardless

No offense taken. You are absolutely right, by this time I should not only be able to spell the next ND QB's name correctly, I should have some idea what we have in him. Strong arm? Accurate passer? Can he move? WE ARE UNDEFEATED! The next one up should have played AND passed in many games. But no, we have no idea and hoping for a transfer???

From what I’ve heard Mccaffrey is off to play for his father in the spring when there season starts. Just a rumor, so he may be off the table....

Why would he want to go to Northern Colorado? He can play in the P5.

which McCaffrey?

Garret Shraeder from Miss St is also an option. They have to go the transfer route, there’s no other choice. Pyne is too small, Clark isn’t good enough, and Buchner is a true Frosh.

Why would he want to go to Northern Colorado? He can play in the P5.

Hence, why I said to “play for his father.”
