Our long snapper won the award for the best long snapper in the nation. He is not coming back for a fifth year next season. Instead, he is going to work as a police officer in Evanston, Illinois. Congratulations to him.

Does anyone know why he would not try to get on with an NFL team?

don't know, that's maybe the best job to have in the nfl.

He has a really bad back injury - I am pretty sure I read that he was on a "pitch" count all offseason and in fall camp because it was so bad. ND has the #1 LS recruit in the country coming, so it should be fine.

Thanks. What's a pitch count?

I knew we had someone good coming in for next year. I was just wondering why he didn't cash in at the NFL level.

I wonder how his back injury will affect his career in law enforcement.

Exactly. They let you hit officers much harder than they let you hit long snappers.

I think they just limited the number of snaps he made in practice.

He should look at JJ Jansen who played at ND from 2004-2007. Undrafted in 2008, but signed with the Packers. Has played for the Panthers since 2009. He has made over $10 million (before taxes) during his 12-year NFL career, including over $1 million this season.

It was known before the season started that this was gonna be his last year because of injuries he’s dealt with. Without those, I think he would have been a coveted LS this year or next. He technically had a year of eligibility. That’s the reason ND added a LS in the 2020 class.
