Waiting to hear from the Kelly homers. Can't wait to hear all the excuses. The weather was bad...Michael Young...the Irish are young...next year is going to be our year...injuries...it was a hostile environment...it was dark out...the stadium lights were to bright...the TV annoucers have it in for ND...the game started to late...

Did I leave any excuses out???

When are people going to admit that with Kelly this is it.Decent regular season record (with 8-9 wins guaranteed thanks to a weak schedule), a decent bowl game and a nice payout for getting into the Pinstripe Bowl. Repeat season after season...Kelly pads his win loss record and ND keeps the money pouring in.

I am here, until I hear a better, realistic option (of which I am all ears).

I’m a Kelly supporter. That was awful yesterday, and I wholly blame it on the coach.

Β

I’m happy with the upward direction in general, but that was embarrassing yesterday.

Β

For all of you who are crowing now.... I just don’t look at things the same way you do, and that is OK.

Β

At the end of the day, we all want our school to do better.

Last night was awful, no excusing that. We were outcoached, outplayed, outhustled....on and on. The worst I've seen since Miami 2 years ago, same feeling. We couldn't execute on a very basic level, and we kept doing the same things that weren't working. Extremely frustrating!

Β

With that said, big picture, Notre Dame has regained a spot of national prominence that it hasn't held in 26 years (1993). We have more talent, across the board, then we've had in a long time. BK's shortcomings as a coach deserves to be seen in context. He has measured up better than Weis, Willingham, or Davie. You have to go back to Lou to find a more successful coach, and Lou had his moments as well.

Β

Kelly's style of offense is generally not to my liking, even when its working. His team's have appeared woefully unprepared at times, and on the biggest stages. I'm not his staunchest defender, by any stretch. I'm not prepared to cast him aside, though. Keep in mind that ND has an abysmal track record of selecting new head coaches.

No. We're just labeled as apologists because other fans need an enemy to beat because ND didn't beat Michigan.

Β

The enemy is losing. Not the other posters guys.

Β

Keep that in perspective, so I don't have to switch to the moderator hat.

Β

Respectfully, we didn't just get beat by Michigan. We got slaughtered. I know you love Notre Dame. We all love Notre Dame. But you need to keep into perspective that this just wasn't a loss. I don't see how you can rationally see it any other way than what it is. They beat the hell out of us, and it's a team game. So, saying that the D played well and got tired doesn't diminish the full effect of how badly the result was. It's a team game and a team score.

I think ND would be foolish to hit the reset button on the staff now. Nobody likes tough losses but the fact is that the team is competing for the CF playoffs each year. Didn't work out this year but there's obvious forward momentum.

Β

There's plenty of room for complaints regarding last night but that doesn't mean you get a new coaching staff.

Β

100% correct. There’s no excusing last night and it’s a black mark on Kelly’s resume, but this talk of firing him is ridiculous and the result of Fantasy Football culture in sports.

I've always been indifferent. I've supported Kelly because at the time I didn't think anyone was better. I also knew that the cupboard was bare and it gave a longer leash. I've also knew we needed a coach longer than 5 years to build some traction of getting talent. Also, I could see progress(some didn't) yearly in talent and wins.

But two years ago I saw the writing on the wall. It's just not going to happen here for Kelly. Unless we go the Bobby Bowden route and let Kelly coach for ND for the next 10 years. -Which I'm not. Because Kelly is going to need all the right magic and formula to make it perfect for him to win the big one.

Last year, I started becoming a believer again, and then he came Clemson. Ok, they are good. Real good...Then came Georgia, close but no cigar. We have finally turned. Then came Michigan. Same shyt different season.

It's not happening fellas...

Kelly is not going to be here 5 more yrs, much less 10. He’s 58 and has been pretty open about the stress level of the job wearing him out.

We are nowhere near as dominant as that period. I was there when we beat Miami at ND in 1988. We wouldn't beat Alabama at home today. We wouldn't beat the #2 team at their place like we beat #2 USC in the coliseum in 1988. I was at Michigan in 1989 when we beat Michigan in the Big House. We just lost 45-14. I could go on and on about the big games we won both home and away during that era. Kelly is 0-11 against Top 20 teams and has been blown out by Miami and Michigan in the past two years. That doesn't mean we're not better than when Kelly got here in 2010, but there's still a large gap in coaching and talent from the Holtz glory years. Everybody I know who experienced those days and who I've spoken to today understands this. It is the young one's who were not there that don't understand the difference.

My bet is 5 more years. Jenkins just got 5 more years. He's not gonna fire Swarbrick who is not going to fire Kelly. Kelly's got the greatest gig in college football.

To clarify, I wasn't equating Kelly's tenure to Lou's, merely comparing to everyone else that came after. My point was that, big picture, the program is at a level where it hasn't been since 1993.

I think we're where we were in 2005/2006. In fact, I think those teams would beat us due to the difference between Quinn and Book.

Possibly....the 05 And 06 teams were a slight oasis amidst a desert of mediocrity....and they shared the same kind of "paper tiger" feel as the current group, but overall from a depth of talent standpoint I pick the current group.

I think the talent is better everywhere but QB, that just happens to be the most important position on the field.

Ndmike has not started a thread after the previous 18 games. Now he finally comes out to pound his chest.

Β

BK owns so much real estate in your head it is pathetic.

Β

I had to come out of retirement to reiterate this... Watching the meltdown is a favorite past-time of mine.

Β

Quinn>Book

05 receivers>19

05 oline>19

05 d line>19

Β

Β

This 19 team no doubt has more depth everywhere, but top end talent was good in 05. I would take Crum over White but Bilal and Owusu over Mayes and whoever else we had.

Β

The corners are all so bad I’d rather have none.

Β

Also Zibby>Gilman

And decided schematic advantage>Chip Long.
