First one you continue to trot him out there series after series to get embarrased on national TV when its apparent to everyone he's mentally shot.

Β

The second one you set up to fail by bringing him in with no plan and no support once the game is already decided. Just make him feel like crap by running QB draws and not really showing you have any confidence in him.

Β

Is it any wonder why zero QBs have ever had success under him for more than half a season?

The second account is way off. Phil did just fine.

The offense is starting to remind me of Van Gorder defenses. Our offense can NOT be that difficult that it can only be run by upperclassmen and high four star talent can’t see the field over walk ons and low ceiling players. Kyle Hamilton can come in and be in the rotation but I wonder if Tyree as good as he is would lose carries to Avery Davis or would those great receivers be forced to sit behind Finke and McKinnley?

I thought so. He doesn’t throw a pretty ball but I’d like to see him start a game that’s not in torrential rain.

Qbs get ruined the minute they walk on campus. There is never any progression and there is ample evidence the second year regression is a very real thing.

I think he did fine too. He should have come in at half time though.

I was saying Kelly had no investment or concern in him doing anything with the last couple series.

Yes, and he's done well in the time he's gotten in the games all season long:

Β

Passing:

9-12 passing

75% completion percentage

191 Total yards passing

15.9 yards per completion

2 TD Passes

0 Interceptions

Longest pass: 52 yards

QB Rating: 263.7

Β

Rushing:

12 rushes for 61 yards

5.1 yards per rush

23 yards longest rush

1 Fumble

I think Book's regression came as teams with good D Coordinators and halfway decent players realized he does not see downfield well and bails quickly out of the pocket without great speed to beat them running. So, they put pressure on him, leaving themselves vulnerable to being beaten on deep balls, knowing Book won't be able to do it and knowing he can't hurt them badly running the ball. He's an accurate short game passer, when he has time, with MAC Conference talent. Since we have lots of cupcakes on our schedule, he can pad his numbers in ideal situations for him.

I think that is a very fair assessment of Book. They tried to curb him from bailing out of the picket early, but at the first hint of a rush, he tucks and runs. I, for one, would not be keen on asking him to come back for a fifth year.

I’m ok with having him as a backup, but if he doesn’t want to take that role, cut him loose.
