Yes, I am ready for the Chuck Martin era to begin. And even if BK does come back, I think that'll only be for another 3-4 years, then Martin should be in line. But I will feel good if Martin is named our coach later today.

No. People forget how much lack of continuity can hurt a program, and how far the Davie/Willingham/Weis indecisive years set the program back.

Despite Martin being promoted from Kelly's staff, this will once again be a coaching change and that will have at least SOME effect on the program. Kelly is the head, and I believe one of the best four or five coaches in college football. You do everything to hang onto him.

Love Chuck Martin but he won't be our next Coach.... And no neither will Diaco

It doesn't matter who the coach is, as long as they win at ND, the NFL thing will always be there. These are different times now, coaches don't stay at one place forever anymore.

You don't think that if Martin took over and had success that the NFL wouldn't come calling?

Are you hearing something to this effect, 33, or is this your opinion?

Not doubting you, as I know you've been spot on with all your posts. Just wanted to clarify.

You guys just continue with your coach search while our recruits sit and watch and realize they are going to a school where they know not one of the staff and see how that plays out. If and I still say if Kelly does not come back you really think now is the time for a coaching search. I see no reason why Strong would come here he just signed an extension and he knows we really do not support our coaches he was here. Stoops wanted special things then he will now. I am asking who is your lock down choice that will take this job in a few days or less.

Just my opinion Sir, this is going to be a very delicate time in ND history if Kelly leaves....

We are on the up and HAVE TO keep this momentum rolling and IMO it has to be a BIG hire but we will only get that BIg time coach if ND changes, if they don't, Hello Coach Martin

I want Chuck Martin. Period. He is going to be the "next big thing". Diaco is a flake. He is a great assistant but he is not going to hack it as the top man for a long while. Martin on the other hand has been building to this moment for the last 12 years. HE will take us over the hump and elevate the program to the heights that Kelly aspired to and failed to reach.

Embrace the Martin era...resistance is futile!!!

I wonder if Martin would bring in a top notch offensive coordinator, or promote from within? I would like to see him bring someone in and assume the role of head coach.

You are a bad person.

IMO,

If Kelly were to leave (BIG "IF") my first phone call would be to Pat Fitzgerald of Northwestern. I know that he has a little animosity towards the Irish because they did not recruit him, but is young, has head coaching experience, and is used to working with tough academic requirements.

No disrespect to Chuck Martin, but Grand Valley State is not Notre Dame. Diaco is a great DC, but going to HC at Notre Dame is too large of a jump. Other names to consider.

2. Charlie Strong (Notre Dame Ties)

3. Bob Stoops (Oklahoma is down)

4. David Shaw (Stanford is similiar to ND)

5. Mark Dantonio (Sleeper in Michigan State)

ND has to think Big (this is not the time for experimental coaches). You need proven winners that can recruit.

FWIW- I think Kelly is coming back anyway.

I don't think you are wrong with Martin, he is not a bad choice. As far as I am concerned I think that Jack should take the approach, "If your looking, we are looking". I would publicly start setting up interviews this week.

I understand that Kelly probably wants a better contract, but it did not have to go down like this in the public media this way. When Les Miles does this every two years at LSU this is done within 48 hours. Kelly is really playing with fire here.

Stop dreaming. None of those 5 coaches is going to drop everything and run to ND days before signing day. It is NOT going to happen.
