Wasn't gonna do this but might as well do what I do. I'm a football Junkie. a armchair coach, student of the game type guy.

As usual the Opening post WILL NOT tell you what to think

but these are three games where the Tide was tested.

Based on the film how would you attack the tide?

LSU ran on Alabama with the power concept for 50 yards in the first 5 minutes, largely behind 2 Freshman offensive lineman

They got Alabama moving east-west with the quick passing game and then hit em north/south with Power O

Remember this?

our power concept

we can do that too!

Here's my recipe for success against Bama:

#1 Golson becomes the sacrificial lamb. Its all or nothing here... run the man. Make the defense respect his feet. It will open up plays down-field. Roll him out and hit Eifert on the drag route. keep the defense guessing.

#2 Keep Bama under 175 yards rushing. We know they will get theirs. It's the best oline we will have faced. Look at the LSU and TxAM games; they held them down. Bama will not abandon their gameplan... they'll simply attempt to wear the Irish down. Good news: ND is well conditioned and have proven time and time again that they are physically superior to their opponents late in the game.

#3 Key positions on defense need to play well: Louis Nix vs Barrett Jones. Nix needs to win that battle and I believe he will. The LB's need to attach and fill the gaps. The 2nd level guys need to be quick and wrap up.

#4 (maybe #1) ND offense must turn redzone trips into 7 points. FG's wont cut it.

I believe all of these tings will happen. I think Golson goes off and has an MVP performance. ND D hold Bama's rushing game under 200 and defense solidifies a spot in ND folklore.

The Irish will win this game.

Turn Golson loose to make plays, but not to run 20 times. They will certainly try to hurt him. Check the sinister hit on the Georgia qb.

Good insight. I think we will play contain on Golson and make him use his arm. He can chuck it good but I think that's how we have to play it and take our chances.

Key for us will be establishing the run. We don't need 200 to win, just to move the ball on the ground throughout the game for a 4-5 yard/carry average. That will open up the play action. McCarron has the skills to win the game as demonstrated in last years BCSNCG.

Getting 7 will be key for y'all. I noticed a good bit this year your drives stalled from the 35 on in.

Good Luck! Roll Tide

Not to argue with you but at the point Murray got hit he was NOT a QB... Last I checked it was after the pick, at which time Bama became the offensive team and UGA was the defensive team. QB's don't play defense.

Ever heard the term "get your head on a swivel son"?

It was aggressive and possibly unnecessary (though I think anyone w/in 10 yards of the ball is fair game) but a legal hit, in-spite of that dope Gary McDaniels had to say over and over and over during the telecast... He could just not let it go!

Helmet to helmet hits are not legal anytime.

It was a dirty, cheap hit on A QB 15 yards from the play, which was over.

. He could just not let it go!

Neither can the SEC who are still investigating it...

SEC commissioner Mike Slive suspended no less than 3 other SEC players (2 from Florida) for a game for similar hits during change of possession type plays this season. Of course, Alabama is carrying the SEC's reputation during the BCSNC game so there won't be a suspension this time....

I agree that Bama will play contain on Golson, but as I said earlier... Golson is not Manziel. He would rather throw than run. What he will do is roll the pocket to evade pressure, or just simply buy time. That's really different than trying to turn it up field.

If I'm Kelly, I don't want Golson to cross the scrimmage line much anyway. Your guys will try to take him out hard... hard ... hard. What he will do is try to keep your front 7 close exactly to play contain... and then we'll take our chances with Eiffert and, i am thinking mor e and more, Goodman (he diddn't get a lot of playtime, but he is clutch... big, fast enough and glue-hands).

I expect a run-pass ratio somewhere around 55-45.... earlier in the year it was 60-40 because Golson was limited in his playbook.

I am really keen to see how Nix does against Barrett... i think that battle will determine who ultimately wins. If we can stop your run... and that starts with Lou in my mind... i like our chances more.

Thanks for being classy...

Yeah, that was just sick........how the hell that wasn't called is beyond me.
