, Nooooooooo!!!!

My rose-coloured glasses was hoping he'd be here for the long-haul, but BC is an attractive position.. it's in Boston, near his upbringing in NJ.. a pipeline for BC.

I was also hoping that he might think a few more seasons of preparation at ND would be helpful, but he is at the right age to be getting a good gig.. certainly not younger than other rising stars. And the ND experience profiles well for BC.. similar student make-ups.

BC is a high profile, but not elite program.. kind of like the bottom half of the B1G... so he may be given a little more time to grow into the job of a HC... much like Chyrst has done at Pitt.

Hope he stays, but if he's interviewing... I believe he'll get offered. There are so many vacancies, and so few attractive candidates. Who would you poach? KSU?

I would bet a coach or two follow him, especially his position coach from Iowa (name escapes right now).

this is the only opening i was worried about darn.. do something please jack.. 2 million dollars or so...

How in the hell has Notre Dame allowed this kind of contact before a National Championship game? If I'm not mistaken, BC has to ask permission from a coaches current employer before approaching. If that is correct, and it may not be, then ND should not have allowed this before the NC game. Talk about distractions! If you're a sophomore, or junior defensive player, and you now know that your coach is likely gone after this season then this cannot be anything but a huge distraction. If this contact is allowed, then Diaco should have told BC that any talk of a coaching job will have to wait, in that he should be a tad busy right now. He should be readying for a Bama offense, not worried about an interview with BC. Not now!

maybe Diaco is using this as leverage for a well deserved pay raise

Good for Bob.

We'll be fine regardless.

It's a distraction. Pure and simple, and it should not be occurring now. I'm not against him leaving to better his life and career, but the timing is awful.

You've got to give your guys a shot to interview for promotions. Head coach is a promotion for a guy like Diaco. Ultimately, if you refuse to allow your coaches the chance to grow in their field, you'll lose them the second their contracts are up, and you won't be able to recruit high quality assistants. If you refuse to give your guys a chance to be a head coach, no one is going to want to work for you, and the coaches currently on staff are going to have a low morale.

Say what you want, but it's just good business practice. Also, why not allow your guys to learn to be a HC somewhere else? It's nice to build a pipeline of coaches you could hire back as head coaches in the future. It helps them by allowing them to grow in their profession, and it also gives them experience as a head coach elsewhere.

Yeah I can see how him interviewing for a job FIVE WEEKS in advance of the big game might mess us all up.

Good God people.

Stop being a selfish bastard

I kid, I kid.

Relax brother. This will not be the difference in us winning and losing.

I promise.

That's because you're not a sophomore or junior defensive starter who realizes he may be losing his coach.

or a 5 star recruit, this is just not good for ND. Wish him the best, can't blame him AT ALL but Big Ouch.. not the end of the world, but not just an oh well, either..

What are they gonna do, play less hard now???

What's your point?

Dude, all these players of ours, every single one of them, dream of moving on to the next big challenge. They are wired that way, they understand that thinking.

They embrace Bob leaving for HIS next big challenge especially understanding they HELPED get him there.

Come on kid. This is big-boy stuff.

Many of these schools don't want to wait til after jan 7th to interview candidates. They need to salvage their recruiting classes before signing day. ND would be a$$holes to tell any school they can't talk to a coach who deserves a promotion. Yes it might be a distraction but its part of the game. Good luck to Diaco. He seems like a guy who will be successful wherever he goes.
