Like that title? Me, too . . . So, everyone is saying how OU has this massive advantage in their house and we better be quaking and :scared:

Well, this team is used to "hostile" environments . . . MSU, ~5,000 less capacity than in Norman . . . how'd we do? Pretty darn good.

The Big House last year with much of the same team, at night with at least as much pre-game hype . . . capacity? ~30,000 MORE than in Norman . . . how'd we do? We did well for about 58 minutes; but this year's D does NOT really resemble the 2011 D when it comes to their focus. Our O has also shown it can hold its own . . .

How about the Colliseum in 2010? ~10,000 MORE capacity than in Norman. how'd we do? We won.

I say that the venue will NOT be the bugaboo that so many are suggesting. Especially if they do the armbands like at MSU for the O. . .

Thoughts?

A lot gets made of the fact stoops has only lost 4 home games as the Sooner coach. Can someone tell me outside FSU in 2010, when FSU has welcomed a OOC opponent with a pulse? Texas and OU play at the cotton bowl, so it's not like OU ever welcomes a good team right? Was 2000 Nebraska at home?

It was. But OU also played FSU at home two years ago, which wasn't as good of team as last year and that team wasn't great either.

Still 79-4 is pretty good.

Anyone care to guess how many home losses we've had over same period? :)

I think it's a good thing. For some reason ND plays better on the road. Way less distractions for the players leading up to the game plus they seem to be good at channeling the hate from opposing fans into motivation.

I say the more hostile the better.

Because circumstances are identical right? We're on fourth coach in that period and play a higher level of opponent in almost every instance

The OU Stadium doesn't scare me because I don't fear anyone named Gaylord.

Yikes! Not sure I want to go to a home game when you're there

My thought as well..............or he'll just have to stop going to home games

PLEASE tell me you didn't just make excuses for our abysmal home record, Piratey. There is no getting around instances like UConn, Syracuse, Tulsa, South Florida, and BC -- I just happened to name five, which is more than OU's home loss total in the given stat.

Just pointing out that the situations are entirely different. Matt Ryan was QB of those BC teams for what it is worth. Not comparing our woeful record, I just think OU's home record is over blown.

I think the point is, OU has had a much better program over that run. ND was a bad team, of course they would lose a lot of games at home.

Suddenly, now that ND is a better team, they are 9-1 in their last 10 home games, assuming they beat Pitt and Wake, they be 11-1 in their last 12 home games after this year. Move that out over a few years and you are looking at 55-5, 66-6. Not quite 79-4, but a much better than 50-31 or whatever it has been. Homefield only matters if you have a good team to put on it.

Cory, I think you have made some excellent points in your posts/threads today, but this argument is the epitome of "circular". Is it really a valid excuse to say, "of course we had a bad home record -- we were a bad team!" ?

Guys, it's perfectly fine for OU to be praised for its fabulous home record. I think it's bogus that it doesn't include Texas games, but they probably would have won the majority of those, too. In fact, folks, we should all give a boost to these props for the Sooners at home; it's all the more reason to celebrate the Irish if we are victorious!
