I'm not sure if we've discussed this before, but how can Fox Sports predict a 5-6 season for Notre Dame??? You've GOT to be kidding me. A co-worker of mine is what I like to call a pessimistic Irish fan, and even HE can't find 6 losses on the schedule. Even if we lose to Pitt, Michigan, Purdue, USC, and Tennessee, we would still have to lose to either MSU, Washington, BYU, Navy, Syracuse, or Stanford. NO WAY! This "prediction" does nothing but show me how little research these guys do on their topics. Wow.

The thing about that is that they have to cover every team in the nation. When they do that they have only paid attention to the obvious, the offense is all back under a guru, but the D can't stop anyone. They don't know what is going on with every team, but how can you expect them to. Imagine following every team the way we follow ND. They will be wrong, but they are doing their predictions with limited info, so you can't expect them to be right.

I agree, they can't be right every time, nor can the be experts on every team. But it is widely known to anyone who covers sports in general, specifically college football, that the Irish return nearly the entire offense on a team that went 6-6 last year with suspect defense. Based on just that information alone, you would have to figure they can do at least as well as last year. To fall to 5-6, they would have to lose to every ranked team plus one that they will be favored to beat. It seems to me that predicting ND to go 5-6 is an extreme negative just the same as 9-2 seems to be extremely optimistic view to others.

hmm interesting discussion. It still was a 2004 team with a West Coast. Apple and an orange.

I did spot a local TV sports guy intervirewing a local coach. The TV guy was holding a hand mike and smiling nodding his head "yes, Yes" as coach spoke. Ever se a shoe insirt or Kitchen knife infomercial? The guy smilling and nodding as he interviews a customer?
