Playing favorites...

According to a Chicago Tribune article:

"Any time you get into sports—high school, college, and I don't know what the next level is like—there always seems to be some sort of politics," senior offensive lineman Bob Morton said. "You sit there and you say, 'You know, so-and-so might be a better player, why isn't he playing?' There's always that kind of thing going on in some way, shape or form.

"There has not been one bit of politics in this program, so it's been refreshing just to have the game of football, pure, plain and simple, just laid out."

Reading between the lines it seems like the previous staffs may have been playing favorites for certain reasons. Which could explain why certain people had trouble becoming the break out stars they should have been (David Givens, Julius Jones).

:D Hey bluester. How true. How true. Those past guys on the staff were just West Coast tight good ole boys. Mind numbing isn't it. Actually that's how i felt watching the team last year numb as the coaches were.

Novocaine wears off tho so does welcome mats.

Bluester, you read my mind. I was thinking the same thing when I read that from Morton. I'm thankful that D-Walk is out from under that regime as he should have been the starter last year, hands down. I like Ryan Grant and he seems like a great person, but he simply was not as effective running the ball. It's good to hear that the players are buying into Weis' straight forward style. The more articles I have read, the more I've seen statements that feel like they might be jabs at the old staff.

Snatchy I did see one that a player commented about last years Marx Brothers staff. Something like "I had better coaches in High School." Up at the college level and Notre Dame that's about as insulting a player can say.
