I think it is always tough to get the good ones out of the deep south butHe seems like he would be a good ND fit...

“They have been in contact, but not as much as I’d like,” Blackwell replied when asked if Notre Dame was recruiting him. “I grew up a Notre Dame fan. It’s always had a great tradition. It would be nice to pick up an offer before the season started."

"We sent film. I’ve been academically qualified...I have good grades, so all that is in my favor.”

I think he and Miles Wade would be a couple of good DT prospects to offer.

I agree that they would be good offers, but first lets see what happens with Austin and Barksdale, I think Austin comes on board and I think the last thing they want to do is pick up two commits at DT and maybe lose a special talent like him, I say Austin comes on board first, then we see what Barksdale does then these two (wade and blackwell) get offers depending

from what I read those two really like the idea of going somewhere together, it woudl be a nice package but i doubt if they leave the south

Louisiana defensive tackle Will Blackwell (6-4, 290, 5.0) now favors Notre Dame slightly over LSU, Tennessee, Alabama and Auburn--in this exact order. All have offered.

"I like Notre Dame because it’s a very traditional school. They are also likely to make a run at the national championship next year because they have a lot of returning starters--which means they'll do just as good as they did this season, if not better," said Blackwell, from West Monroe High School.

He plans to narrow down his focus by end of summer and commit by December. "My decision will depend on the school's chance at winning the national championship and my playing time--not too fast but not to slow. I don't want to play my first year so I'd like to redshirt."

Junior stats: 80 tackles and 8 sacks.

Blackwell reports a 3.5 core GPA and a 24 ACT.

The Vols and Bama have some rebuilding to do but the other 3 teams could play for the NC with ND having the best shot to go all the way.

I like a kid that isn't demanding to be an instant starter and is willing to work into the rotation or spend a year developing. That said the DT need for '07 is urgent. Landri will be gone and Laws could leave early. Unless a PAIR of DTs, like Austin and Barksdale, see the light and jump on board I would think a big, strong, talented DT like Blackwell would be in the rotation by necessity. I hope ND has the luxury of accomodating his wish.

Don't we all? If his wish were to be granted then i think it would indeed involve Barksdale and/or Austin. With Mullen moving over and similarly Trattou could be, then the DT spot while some definate attention needs to be spent there, is much better than it looks on paper.

Back in April there was a little scuttlebutt floating on this kid. The Irish are working on establishing a pipeline out of Louisiana. Good time to pull from there and I have a Monsignor that I play golf with down in Lake Charles. Father Bob is probably in this kid's ear. Ooooooowwwhheeeee!!! Now that's cajun! I would say he is 80% Irish. This is a case of you snooze , you lose for some of the other boys.
