I read that as well. I am so relieve to hear that he simply needed time away from the school for academic reasons. Since he was one of the early withdrawals, I was concerned that he wasn't going to give CW a chance. Hopefully he hits the weights big time while he is off, and comes back ready to dominate. (I.E. Julius Jones)

I'm pretty sure in the article he basically said flat out that it was academics, and he couldn't really see himself NOT returning. I'm trying to find a link, but I can't remember where I read that.

I really doubt Travis will return with the furry Julius did. Julius had taken some classes in his spare time, but the majority of his time was devoted to getting bigger and stronger thanks to Thomas' (his NFL brother) trainer. Julius was a small, shifty, quick runner when he left, and shockingly he returned 20-30 lbs stronger and retained most of his speed and shiftiness, which is why he's in the NFL.

Travis may come back and may be a starter, but it seems unlikely that he'll ever become the impact player he was recruited to be.

Yeah, that's probably the voice of reason talking, but I was just throwing the JJ reference out there as a "we can dream can't we?" type of scenerio. Truthfully, I'd be happy just to get him back and hit some people on special teams. Also, it seems like in the spring, he and Frome were really duking it out gunning for the DE spot opposite Victor Abiamiri. Healthy competition for playing time is always good to have.

It was a sad state of affairs while I was there... The library basement was being renovated, they were adding a extension to one of the science or engineering buildings, they built the new security building near stepan, plus the gug, dpac, and constant renovations to the stadium...

not sure how many people know this but apparently when the stadium was originally added onto the plumbing was atrocious, meaning almost every year they end up having to go back in there and fix something... it was like going to school on a construction site...

not to mention graduating under that dome... which was covered with scaffolding at the time...

i will be returning to ND for the weekend, so if anyone wants any updates let me know...

I can see how that would be a bummer, with such a beautiful campus hidden under the scaffolding and construction that come with growing pains. I do recall the general anger from students graduating with the scaffolding on the dome, that seems like a raw deal. Welcome to the site, by the way, that's a great avatar. Hope to hear more from you soon!

The students were absolutely livid especially considering it felt like they were screwing us on the biggest day of our lives in favor of having the Dome clear for Jenkins' inaugaration (allegedly).

Thanks for the welcome.

ND.edu has a bunch of great pictures... this one has always been my favorite...

I will try to sneak into a practice or two, provided that I can prove to Chuckles that I am not a Pitt spy.

Tyler Palko sucks!

Go Irish...

Atta boy! Here's to Abiamiri blasting him so hard he lets the F-Bomb fly for reasons other than post-game interviews. You're a marked man Palko!

Wow, have I really posted 300 times???

letiko, from what i understand, was taking some impossible major like areodynamic engineering or something. Clearly he just didnt have time to have a life play football and do that major. So hopefully he comes back and is able to produce for us next year

Here is a transcript from the interview with Leitko.

from the SouthBendTribune:

Defensive end Travis Leitko hopes to return to Notre Dame in the summer of 2006 after sitting out this school year.

"Primarily it's academic reasons I'm not at Notre Dame this year," Leitko said via telephone Tuesday from his parents' home in The Woodlands, Texas. "That's the simplest answer. So I'm going to stay home, work out, take a few classes and get a job.

"It's not 100 percent that I will be back at Notre Dame next year, but there's not a very good chance I won't be."

Leitko sat out as a freshmen and recorded 17 tackles over the past two seasons as a backup defensive end and special teams player. If he returns in 2006, it will be his final collegiate season.
