I have some extra time to do this. As you see in BYU's loss At Oregon the Ducks were able to run the ball and stop the run. ND did that last time out vs UNC so it might be good timing to play BYU. Like UNC, BYU has quite a QB and quite a passing game, BYU QB Hall gets alot of receivers involved. The real noticeable difference to me in BYU and UNC is the defense. BYU plays more of a 3-3-5 look it seems so there will be an extra backer out there to try to block. ND wasn't good at that vs Ohio State so lets hope their working on blocking the 3 man odd front this week. Popular Post Show Me The Irishman
I did my undergrad at Utah State and Just got my masters at ND. Seeing that my previous Alma Mater just played byu, Iβm happy to give a breakdown to my fellow Domers of byuβs position groups. Iβll start with the offense: - QB - Jaren Hall. The kid is a first round NFL prospect, and as much as I hate to say it, heβs as good as advertised. Heβs mobile, accurate, accurate on the run, and has a BIG arm. Iβve seen videos of him throwing a 70 yard ball coming out of high school. If he has time, heβll pick us apart. The one flaw in his game is that his accuracy decreases substantially when heβs under duress. Getting a solid pass rush will be critical for the Irish to win. - OL - On paper, they should be one of the better units in the country, but they havenβt done as well this year as their fans hoped they would have. Weβll see if that continues. If they play the same way they did against Utah State, the Irish D-line should win this match up handily. - WR - Their top three guys (in order) are Puka Nakua, who has been injured all year. If heβs healthy, heβll be their biggest weapon. After that Gunner Romney is their speed receiver, then Keanu Hill is a solid #3. They have some decent tight ends, but nothing like Michael Mayer. Overall this group is decent, but theyβre no where near the talent as the what we saw against Ohio State. -RB - they have a good Thunder/Lightning combo with Brooks and David, but theyβre only as good as their offensive line allows them to be. I expect them to run some trick plays on us, especially a reverse β> flee flicker play they tend to run once a game. However, if we can win the battle in the trenches. I donβt see byu scoring more than 17 points on us. As for their defense, the strength of their unit is their LBβs. Their D-line is big and are used to absorb blocks to let their LBβs make the plays. However, theyβre not quite as big and strong as they were in years past. Ever since their stud NG Khyris Tonga graduated, they havenβt been anywhere near as imposing. They have very little pass rush. Their D-line will just try to bull rush the opposing teamβs to get pressure. It works on some teams, but I donβt see it working on us. For their coverage, they like to drop 8 defenders a lot which causes impatient Qbβs to fit passes in tight windows. They essentially live by the βbend donβt breakβ philosophy. They donβt get beat deep much, but they do allow a lot of passes underneath, so expect Michael Mayer to have a big day. As for their special teams, their field goal kicker has become a head case. Heβs missing a lot of easy kicks. Itβs to the point where byu fans started booing him. Kind of sad really. If ND can win the battle in the trenches, get pressure on Hall, and be patient enough on offense to sustain long drives, we should win the game by 2-3 Touchdowns. Wharton70
NYGD - Outstanding analysis and insight. SDIrishFan
From what little Iβve seen, ND needs to run the ball first and foremost, establish drives let that open up The play action. If they drop 8 consistently, we should be able to run all day. If we get over 200 yards rushing and play clean (. No turnovers, few penalties), we should win by 10+. Hall will probably get his, but I read somewhere heβs had a history of concussions and is terrified of getting another one. If you can knock him around early, heβll be looking more at the rush than downfield.

ND_JACK
Walking the streets of Vegas this afternoon I saw a lot of ND fans and very few BYU letβs hope that that carries over to the game attendance. Β Btw I have seen BYU play this year and I would agree their offense is decent. The only offense position imho that looked better then ours was QB. And our defense looked much better then theirs especially the DL. If we can put pressure on their QB And I think we can β¦..we should be fine β¦..and like Show Me said their receivers are not nearly as talented as Ohio St. The Vegas line has ND a 4 point favorite I put half of my fun money on the Irish. I hope Iβm not overly confident but if ND is going to turn this season around this is the game they need to prove itβ¦.UNC was not a very good team.
