SDIrishFan
I’m confused, didn’t we sign the #1 kicker last year?
irishrush
Yes. This is very confusing. I guess just proven depth, although his percentage was not stellar.

I think its just a lose a punter, gain a kicker sorta deal. Its probably Brambletts scholarship.

Don’t we also need a punter to replace bramblett too?
FaithInIrishForever
ND recruited one this year and Bryan is also a guy who can do both. Would I rather the transfer be a pure punter, yes. Am i worried? NO
Tailgate Approved
I view this as raising the floor on the position. Ideally, Bryan is a stud for the next three years and this guy doesn't see the field (sorry, Blake). If Bryan isn't ready, they've now got an average (maybe above average, if he improves this off-season) kicker with experience ready to step in to the role.

I see what you're saying but if a place kicker isn't "ready" after his freshmen year, I'm not sure he'll ever be ready.
ndfanatic78
Maybe the guy has a bigger leg for kickoffs. I don’t know. Just throwing darts at a dart board. Edited January 13 by ndfanatic78
Synoptico
If there are spots available, I am all for it. I doubt this is pushing someone out vs realizing they have more spots than we fans realize.
D Fence
I think I read Bryan will still be the #1 option for kickoffs as he has a really strong leg. This is probably just to have a vet there when we go to OSU. I hope it doesn't speak to how the staff feels about Bryan. We do have a new punter coming in with Bryce McFerson
NYGoldenDomer
Didn't we also sign a stud punter?

I think it will be a competition between Grupe and Bryan for kicker and Ryan and Mcferson for punter. Whoever doesn't win a job probably gets kickoffs probably
Tailgate Approved
It's also possible they just want two kickers on scholly. If there's an injury, it would be better to have a reliable backup than a soccer player fill-in.

Who knows ? There might be an injury issue that prompted this or,just having backup in case of an in-season injury. We do have an All-American punter in this class, so no worries there. TexasDomer
The NFL isn’t “done with it”. No sport is, as far as I can tell
