That is what I was wondering about. But then, wouldn't they have vetted him at least fairly well before hiring him on as DC?

If something previously undiscovered shows up in his dossier, I am done watching football. I could not take. Please God don't make me watch "Below Deck" with the woman.

Probably. FWIW I don't see this team going to Buckeye country with Kelly and coming out with a W. We will see how Freeman does.

A win would be signature level for both Freeman and ND.

We'd be underdogs anyway. Stroud will be returning for his 3rd and likely last season. We'll be starting the year with a newb QB.

I don't expect to win. I'll judge Freeman more on the defensive effort vs Stroud.

I'm just hoping right now we can get a winnable NY6 Bowl, and we can win, and take positive energy into next year and on the recruiting trail.

Funny, and it's a long shot, but it's possible we play OSU in a NY6....

The great thing is Ohio State should lose both offensive and defensive tackles. Two of their first round wideouts. A middle linebacker and a safety. That’s a lot of talent leaving at key positions.

The things that concern me are little things

  • When to call a timeout?
  • When to go for it on 4th down
  • Will we defer on the coin toss now?
  • Practice planning

No one on the staff will have a ton of CEO type experience

I know I have to bring them up, but those are things that Kelly did.

Most of us on this board could handle all of the things you listed with the exception of "practice planning".... and he's been around long enough that he'll be just fine.  He's not the first young guy to take his first head coaching gig at a big university.

We'll see. Those are my concerns. Overall I support the decision.

Boy I sure hope he starts deferring the coin toss.  I would always want the ball to start the second half and with his D he should have no issues setting the tone with three and outs to start the game.

But the first 3 Kelly was horrible at. Went for it on 4th when he shouldn’t have and would get stopped.

Horrible time management at the end of the half and end of game.

Would always take the ball and get stopped on the first possession. Most good coaches try to defer and get points right before the end of the half and drive down at the beginning of the second half.

I guess he was good at the practice schedule. I have no idea though.
