tneun89 18
ND drops to 0-2 in the ACC with a 66-57 loss to UVA at Purcell Pavilion. Hubb and Ryan were absolutely awful, going a combined 1-12 FG and 0-9 3PT. Durham played the best I’ve seen him play in a ND uniform, finishing with 19 points in 7-11 FG. Laszewski was the player of the game for ND - again - as he had 28 points and kept ND in it. For a team full of juniors and seniors, this team has no idea how to close out games down the stretch. They had plenty of opportunities to tie the game late, but couldn’t make a shot. Then, their defense really let them down. Tell me if you’ve heard that before. This was a great opportunity to get an ACC win and beat a Top 25 team, but ND blew it. I stand by my comments after Kentucky - this will be a long and frustrating season. The play of Hubb and Ryan the last couple of games makes me think ND will not finish above .500 in conference play once again.
irishwavend 2
Is Brey still our coach? Then the probability of success is still less than ideal.
irishrush 10
To add insult, Wertz looked like he really messed up his ankle. I actually think he is one of the best players on the team. Ryan has disappointed. Poor defender and has not been able to hit anything yet.
BrianKellyTheMan 10
I’m sorry but not many schools allow a coach to keep going like this * Again, he hasn’t won a ranked game since Witchia State 3 years ago?
ND_JACK 12
I didn’t watch the game but according to the article it looks like we lead for a lot of the game but again couldn’t close. https://und.com/irish-come-up-just-short-at-unc-66-65/
irishrush 10
Could not close or box out on defense. UNC's bigs killed us. We missed at least 3 free throws (might have been 5) down the stretch, too. Wasted another phenomenal performance by Laz.
irishrush 10
Another uninspiring effort vs Va Tech. Lack of effort on D and rebounding is just killing us. Cornett kept referencing a play when Goodwin got beat out by a 6'2" guard for a rebound and a put back. Kind of sums up our rebounding. It really does seem like there are some good pieces on this team, just too many good guards and not enough power inside.

ND got a big time transfer from Yale last week, Paul Atkinson - 6'10 big man who can really play. He was named Ivy League Player of the Year last season. ND needed it after the sub-par recruiting from Brey since the "big time" 2018 class. He will certainly help the 2021-2022 team. If it wasn't for transfers, I'm not sure where this program would be. Durham, Cormac Ryan, Trey Wertz, and now Atkinson. Brey really needs to figure out recruiting, but I doubt he's here much longer.

irishrush 10
Another ugly game. This is really sad to waste some of this talent. There just aren't enough pieces to make a whole team. Unfortunately, the lack of "want to" comes down to the coach.

Unfortunately, the lack of "want to" comes down to the coach. I agree. I actually got to watch a lot of this game. It just depresses me watching them. After the game yesterday I was going to come on the board and comment but I lost interest......now that’s sad.
Jersey Irish 12
They are not much fun to watch this year, as you are waiting for the roof to collapse on them at any given moment, but Brey did secure the services of a local South Bender for next season who many say is the goods! ND_JACK 12
Yes the Irish win there first ACC game this year even if it was against fellow cellar dweller BC. https://notredame.rivals.com/news/observations-notre-dame-handles-boston-college-for-first-acc-win
irishrush 10
I was screaming at the tv towards the end as they were still trying as hard as they could to give the game away. Missed layups on fast breaks and dribbling out of bounds with 1-2 minutes left on the clock. They were playing like no one on the team had ever been up at the end of a game before. tneun89 18
ND beats Miami 73-59. Brey started the entire bench tonight and they proceeding to brick everything. But the starters took over and played well. Hubb led the team with 19 points and had a great shooting night (finally). Laszewski and Durham each added 16 points. ND is now 5-8 on the year and has won back-to-back conference games.
ND_JACK 12
ND needed that W for a confidence booster even if it was against A horrid Miami team.
irishrush 10
Another egg last night. I believe that is 26 in a row to ranked opponents. An interesting article. I've always liked Brey, but I think it might be time. https://notredame.rivals.com/news/mike-brey-notre-dame-basketball-at-the-crossroads
ND_JACK 12
Good read. I didn’t realize Brey’s contract extends to 2025. Btw the article said we lost 28 straight to ranked opponents now.
irishrush 10
Didn't see this coming. https://www.ndinsider.com/basketball/mens/noie-didnt-see-that-26-point-road-win-coming-from-notre-dame/article_504deb70-b3af-5208-8d7d-6c1d9d0b39f9.html
ND_JACK 12
Wow....I guess what they say is right, that you have to hit rock bottom first....lol....maybe they can beat Syracuse for me on February 20th
tneun89 18
ND has now won three games in a row after beating Wake Forest tonight. They are 7-9, 4-6 after starting 0-5 in ACC play. Good turnaround brought about by much better defense. The only decent team they’ve beaten is Pitt over the weekend, but wins are wins. Georgia Tech this weekend, followed by Duke and Miami next week. ND has a real shot to win those three and get to above .500.
irishrush 10
It has been a nice turn around. The rest of their schedule is manageable considering the state of the league this year.

ND_JACK 12
The Irish play SU today at 2:00 on the ACC Network. SU is supposed to be a NCAA bubble team right now. A loss to the Irish today could burst their bubble.......Go Irish!
