Moorehead to oregon

Something is funny here. Either ND's interest in Moorehead was overblown by the ND media and others, or Moorehead never had serious interest in ND. I find the second part hard to believe given his background and where ND is as a program. I wonder if ND told Moorehead that he had to keep Rees, Taylor, Quinn, and Alexander on staff, plus Rees would be co-OC. That would mean Moorehead wouldn't get to bring any of his guys with him, and he would essentially share the OC title with a first-year coordinator. This is complete speculation on my part, but something doesn't smell right.

I don't think it's money related. Mississippi State is paying Moorehead a boatload not to coach. Not sure an extra $500k from Oregon would make that much of a difference (easy for me to say). It doesn't sound like it ever even got to that point - there was no formal interview with ND.

Kelly wanted Rees. Kelly wants some input back in the offense. I think that is what it comes down too.

Yep, he is inching back to the old BK. I am disappointed because we have a chance to be real good next year. Do we want to risk it on a first time coordinator? It is a huge risk, but a risk Kelly knows he will not get in trouble for; he has the coldest seat in America.

Cory had an excellent coaching tree analysis that spoke to the results of CBK's comfort picks. It is scary, and unfortunately I agree with it and the comments.

Looking, let's say, 11 months ahead, it took 2 great LSU O. C.s a quarter and a half (and a critical targeting disqualification of Skalski when Clemson was only 3 points behind in the 3rd quarter) to crack Venable's defense....Coach Rees against that? Not a good omen for the program.

Yeah, that’s a total mismatch. LSU’s Offense was just a total juggernaut, Venebles is still one of the best, if not the best DC out there. All I can say is UNC figured out a way to move the ball, so there’s at least hope for ND, but I’m not feeling confident at all.

If the bowl game is an indicator, I think Rees is going to be calling the shots on a play by play basis obviously with the big picture coming in from Kelly.

One of the announcers pointed out that coach was telling Rees that he was in 4 down territory etc before making his call on 3rd down.

We haven't seen that much run in 7 years here.

Time will tell if that bowl game was just an audition and if Kelly will pull the reigns in on TR.

J, I didn't mean to infer that Kelly was calling plays. Rees and Kelly speak the same verbage.. Kelly taught him the language, it will be quicker than his interaction with Long but not a play call. Kelly doesn't want to call plays.

Wait wait wait a minute! You said that BK is the best coach outside of Dabo, Saban, and Meyer. Surely his sheer genius will find a way to win the game with home field advantage, right?

I see now how you are playing both sides of the fence so when Clemson comes in and kicks us in the teeth you can justify that it really wasn’t BK’s fault.

Nice work!

TCU's Gary Patterson, now president of the American Football Coaches Association, in addressing the organization yesterday said that in his experience, the number one factor in deciding who a head coach should hire is: how does everyone get along with that person? He said it's not as much X's and O's, but rather can the coaches who are going to be spending 18 hours a day together in small rooms get along and work together. Each coach needs to bring something different to the table, but they have to get along.

Thought it was an interesting take from a guy who's been pretty successful over the last 15 years.

I never said that. I’ve said he’s a really good coach and deserves more respect for what he’s done at ND than you guys give him.

I’ve said even before the Rees hire, they aren’t beating Clemson. They might be able to make it a competitive game, but ultimately Lawrence and Ross will be too much.
