It didn’t take long for Notre Dame to seal the deal with Caleb Offord.

The Irish coaching staff is surely relieved to have multiple cornerbacks penciled-in during a class where recruiting the position has been a laborious task, to say the least.

A big part of that effort has been sorting through three-star talent in search of overlooked or high-potential prospects who line up with Notre Dame. Through that search, a long, physical corner out of Mississippi in Caleb Offord surfaced.

After Clark Lea and his staff completed their homework on the 6-foot-1, 173-pounder, he was offered on May 23. Shortly after adding the Irish to his list, he gave his thoughts to Irish Illustrated.

“(Lea and Terry Joseph) seem like great coaches,” Offord told Irish Illustrated on May 25. “They seem like they know what they’re talking about. They had me go through some things and I’ve been researching Notre Dame. I think they have something special going on there. I think they’re pretty great coaches.

“Something they like most about me is my physicality and my ball skills, how I’m able to take the ball away when it’s in the air. That’s what they said they like most.”

During that conversation, Offord mentioned his academic strength in math and his interest in studying civil engineering. And although he seemed enthused by the opportunity, he initially mentioned late-summer or early-fall as his time frame for visiting South Bend.

Think he has a shot to be very good. Great length and ball skills. Believe it was reported his arms measured 34”. That’s crazy

He is raw but has the skills, physical attributes and willingness to play physical. He will enroll early.

That's huge that he's enrolling early for him. Todd lyght and Matt Balis have their work cut out for them. And can he play safety? I don't see the speed. And he ran a 4.59 or 4.61? I can't remember
