247: Announce details set for RB Donovan Edwards

FWIW, it still feels like he goes to Michigan, feels engrained into him.

I've got no insider information but I was scrolling Twitter around him and saw a few images prior to Harbauggggh's downfall that made D.E. look like an ambassador to Michigan. Seeing that left me with the distinct impression that he wouldn't flip.

Whoever does sign on is coming into a golden situation. Great oline, defense to keep solid gamescripts, SENSATIONAL RB coach and a depth chart that's not overloaded. Seems crazy that selling that hasn't gone better.

Yeah it doesn't make sense. I remember the time when BK couldn't recruit wideouts early on. Even though, it was known that BK was going to throw it all over. Then it changed. Seems like we are just missing on running backs now.

I get your point but Williams and Tyree are huge hits and a lot of people really like Diggs. If we flip Estime thats another really good back. And I expect we get a big one in the 22 class as well

Sometimes kids just feel a certain way about a school. If Edwards wants to go to UM because that’s the school he likes best, then that’s that. If it was purely a logical decision of, “Which school does X best,” then I’m sure ND would miss out on a ton more kids as well. Sometimes kids just like a certain school, and that’s all there is to it.

That said, this class is impressive given everything ND has had to combat with COVID!

These are good points and healthy perspective. I'll wish D.E. well where ever he decides to go as he seems like a decent enough kid (and I can't fault someone if they stick to their guns by going to a dumpster fire like Michigan. I can respect someone with principles like that). Personally, I think he's the best of the remaining RB's on our board and would hate to lose out on him but A) this is an amazing class and B) we've got plenty of other great options at RB in play.

ND just offered Estime (NJ RB). It sounds like Edwards is Michigan bound. As I mentioned in another thread, this is not a consolation prize. Is he as talented as Edwards? Probably not - Edwards is a legitimate Top 50 talent. But Estime had a great year and was named the NJ player of the year. He recently received bumps on 247 (4-star, #17 RB) and Rivals (#132 overall, #7 RB). This would be a big get.

Is Estime expected to sign with ND on Wednesday? There are lots of CB's for him to ND (including Wiltfong)on 247

Nobody really knows. Some think he will want to take a visit to ND first. Others think he will just pull the trigger sight unseen. But everyone expects the flip to happen.

So if we're able to land Estime, does that make it 7 flips for this cycle? Jojo Johnson, Riley, Gee, Bryan, Aupiu and Caleb Johnson so far. If so, this has to be a record for us. Great work by the staff in a crazy year and certainly the winning helps.

My final thoughts on the 2021 class. I absolutely love this class personally. The only bummer for me is not landing Abiara or Gilliam. We say it every year that there are underrated kids and talk things up. BUT I truly think there are several underrated kids this year and feel legitimate about that. Biggins, Wiltfong, and multiple other non-ND analysts have commented on multiple signees that would have very likely risen in the rankings with camps and playing this year. The average player rating for this class is .9031 after removing Ron Powlus III and Josh Bryan. Also, one important thing this year. ND got a lot of kids that they targeted very early with the only real exception at RB but I like both RB.

QB: Buchner is either the real deal and a homerun or not. He has the mental make up and the tools so we will see. If he is the real deal then this offense will be something to see the next few years. Powlus is a nice practice guy that will know the system through and through.

RB: I think Diggs will join ND (or already has actually) and it will make a great tandem. I don't think ND has had a guy like Estime in a while. I am very excited about him. He gives me that big, lumbering guy but somehow is running away from people. Diggs Sr. highlights were fantastic as well. He adds a different element.

WR: I like this haul a lot. I think Thomas is one of my biggest question marks in this class. He seems to run nice routes and shows some suddenness but I am still uncertain. I think Styles could be next years Michael Mayer for the team. Colzie is a great size and speed combo for Balis to work with.

TE: Great follow up to Mayer and Bauman. I am very interested to see how athletic Evans is. That is a big kid and appears to have some real wiggle. He could be a serious monster down the road as I don't think he even knows what he can do at TE.

OL: First time with a OL class this large that I feel all 5 can/will be starters for ND at some point. Monster OL haul in my opinion.

DL: I wish ND had gotten Abiara or Gilliam. I love Aupiu and think he could become something special. Onye also intrigues me with his size but he will need a couple of years. Rubio is the stud and paired with Mills and Aiden from last year is A+. Schweitzer intrigues me too. His recent workout highlight showed a lot more quickness than I expected.

LB: I love Prince Kollie. Since day one his film was "just different". Clark Lea liked and wanted Kia, I'm onboard 100% then. Kia is one I will be watching for reports on.

CB: I love this DB class. Oozing athletic ability and variability. Barnes has put on some serious muscle and could factor in next year I think. Very excited to watch this DB class.

S: I really like Walters and think he will be great after a year of training and learning. Gee is the wildcard. Is he a true safety or a Rover in time. If Houston Griffith isn't a real player next year ND better hope one of the CBs is s safety. Some movement has to occur at S after next year.

I envision ND heading to the transfer portal for a QB and DB (S I would guess). Not guaranteed but they will be looking.

agree I love the class except for DL. ND got only 1 DT but got a really good one. im very disappointed with the DE class, just a lot of question marks. I really hope Buchner is the real deal but with no senior season in a tougher conference, so who knows. but if the Buchner experiment fails then ND maybe in serious trouble.

I think SDE was the big miss. Onye may end up inside plus ND is loaded right now with inside DL. With Clark hurt, if Buchner misses then you are 100% right.

do you mean everyone on the current roster has a free year of eligibility or the incoming recruits?

Everyone on the current roster. Knowing that, the NCAA also gave teams a reprieve (in 2021 only) for the 85 scholarship limit.

Incoming recruits will have the 4 game limit to preserve a year of eligibility as a redshirt year.
