2021 Recruiting Prospects

Is this kid really worth a scholarship? There’s no way he’s a difference maker.

Tucker has length and plays the ball in the air which to me is better than a player that runs a 4.3 40 and never turns around to find the ball in the air.

Really? 6'1" frame and very fast. Ran the 100m in 10.97 seconds. Biggins (west coast 247) believes he would have blown up if there would have been normal spring activities (evaluations, circuits). I trust in Mickens/staff in this one. Would be surprising if Chance is not Irish at this point.

Commitment tomorrow for Tucker - will add to an already impressive DB class.

Tucker, Evans, Spindler next 3?

I think it'll be Tucker and a couple of '22 guys (TE Jack Nickel and OT Joey Tanona).

Evans could be the next '21 guy after Tucker, but he may wait. It sounds like Pittsburgh is right up there.

Spindler announces on August 8th, so he could be after Tucker.

I was talking 21 guys. But yeah it sounds like those 2 could pop for the 22 class

Would be surprised if Evans is not Irish also. Cannot coach 6'7". This kid's frame has crazy potential. Classic big skill guy which could offer solid options.

Chance Tucker is in. Blake says another is coming. I think its 2022 though.

Tanona or Nichols in 22. Evans in 21. Get the momentum back

For those who are interested, there is a really good article on The Athletic about how the pandemic is affecting evaluations for the 2021 and 2022 recruiting classes. It talks about the importance of 7-on-7, spring practice, and the ability to have kids workout on campus visits. It also talks about how "late bloomers" will really be hurt in the event that seasons are outright cancelled.

Big has talked about this before and how this will just be a really off year for evaluating players and recruiting classes. This obviously goes both ways for all schools - I am sure there are guys in ND's class who are criminally underrated (Ryan Barnes and Chance Tucker immediately come to mind), while there are probably some commits who are rated too high.

I think 2022 will be worse in terms of evaluating recruits and classes unless things really improve - junior year film and camp performances are huge for recruits.

My quick breakdown of the 2021 class so far:

QB:

Great QB. He needs to readjust his throwing motion but its mechanics and not something earth shattering. He seems to have the mental make up and intangibles, which you cannot teach. I really like Buchner.

RB:

Edwards is the homerun and the least likely. ND needs to land a solid RB...or 2. In Taylor we trust for now. I don't see a clear option at the moment, but they need one.

WR:

Styles is great. Must land a decent sized, higher rated kid (Thornton, Colzie, etc.) If they can do that and land Thomas or similar, homerun WR class. A ways to go here though. Titus could also be a WR if Slocum joins the safety ranks.

TE:

Berrong is a very solid player, WR type hybrid but a solid blocker. Add Evans as a TE/OT potential and I think that's fantastic especially with Bauman and Mayer in front of them.

OL:

Fisher was a great start. I think Coogan is really solid. Alt is a high upside gamble but the right type of player to gamble on. They need Spindler for this to be a strong OL class. I do consider this OL class a little bit of a disappointment given the opportunity they had but maybe things will play out in the long run.

DL:

Really solid class when paired with last year. Rubio is awesome, imagine him with Rylie Mills on the inside. Solid upside with Onye and I think Abiara is underrated (hope he sticks).

LB:

Would love to land Kollie and really its the only option right now. They are getting after 2022 LBs but getting Kollie would be awesome. Just has a pop, swagger, and fluidity on film that I like.

CB:

Love this trio committed. Great size, great length, solid speed. Adding Wright would be extra at this point. Now go to work Mickens and Joseph.

S:

I really like Walters, there is a ton of potential there. If they land Slocum or Titus to go with him it will be a great haul. Also, factoring in Barnes could be a CB or S.

would love to see ND land either Edwards or logan diggs or both, ND can not afford to go bust this year at RB.

I have to say looking towards the ‘22 class, one of my top target is this guy. Same HS as Steve Buerlien, Troy Nicklas and EQ St Brown. Imagine him, Buchner, Tyree, Jordan Johnson, and Mayer all on the field together in a few yrs.

Happy to have Diggs on board if he commits. Good size, good power, and runs with violence. A 1 cut back who likes contact and will block when necessary. Very happy to have him onboard.

Seems like the thunder to Tyree's lightning. Considering at one point, we may not have gotten any decent backs in this class I am very to have Diggs if he's Irish.

Any rumblings on Spindler?

Michigan or ND, no one seems heavy one way or the other

Lots of chatter on another board (not premium) that Diggs could be next. I find it funny how some are not thrilled and would rather pass on him because he isn’t running away from HS DBs. To each their own I guess.

Might see something today

Diggs starts around the 1 minute mark

Better burst than I thought but looks stiff. I read he's a 1 cut runner and that seems like it fits

Fingers crossed. Not what we all hope for but another solid body in the stable it would seem.

Swing for the fences and continue after Edwards I hope.

ND should land Mitchell Evans. Hopefully ND lands Spindler in a little over a week. ND is in good position for Jayden Thomas. ND needs to stay all over Kollie, Slocum and Titus, all very realistic gets as of today. ND needs to stay after Edwards and Rucci for the homeruns. I think ND can win for Dont'e Thornton too, eventually.

Then, something will hit the fan eventually, good or bad, because this year is crazy.
