Just FYI, there have been a ton of crystal balls on 247 for Riley to ND in the last 24 hours, including a couple of national recruiting analysts. His recruitment will probably last a bit longer until he can take some visits (he's never been to ND), but this was a needed development with what the CB board looks like and what ND needs this cycle (2-3 CBs).

CBs that ND is in actively pursuing: Ceyair Wright (#82 overall; there are probably 10 programs that are involved - long way to go), Philip Riley (#285 overall), Deuce Harmon (#301 overall; Texas and Texas A&M in better shape than ND right now); Propphet Brown (#339 overall as a RB; ND pursuing as a CB - recently released a Top 6: Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon, USC); Ryan Barnes (#549 overall; very underrated - looks like an ND/Clemson battle). Big or LV feel free to add others.

Tom Loy just put his crystal ball in for Clemson for Shipley.

ND really has no other options at RB, and this is a complete gut punch for ND. Shipley was the type of recruit ND absolutely has to land for ND to approach an elite recruiting level (though, I will always say that they cannot get Top 5 on a consistent basis). To lose this one kills the 2021 class, IMO. Still early and ND can add some difference makers at the skill positions, but ND has a limited pool of 5-star talent due to academics. They have to start winning these battles, not just putting in effort. Crushing blow to the 2021 class.

3 Crystal balls to Clemson for Shipley in last week plus Steve Whitfong's one back in March.

Seems that Brian Kelly lost Shipley to Dabo a couple of months ago.

Apparently Shipley was very very close to committing to Clemson 3 weeks ago. The full court press by ND made him rethink the commitment. Notre Dame has put everything into his recruitment. You can't blame them for lack of effort here. They did all they could and it seems like it won't happen. Karter Karles said that Shipley has been all over the place with his feelings. He said that he really has been very unpredictable. In the end these are 18 year old kids, you just never know. Do your best and hope the chips fall your way. This one loss would hurt but won't "kill" this class. They still have some time.

I agree, that has been reported and seems accurate. Either that or the communication behind the scenes has been masterfully quiet. It will be interesting to see how Donovan Edwards responds. Maybe Prophet Brown is considered for RB too, although they love him at DB. The next couple of weeks will be interesting from the perspective, do they offer more guys or wait to hopefully evaluate more in the next few months.

If distance was equal I think he may have picked ND. You just get that vibe if you look at the whole situation from beginning to now.

Having no backup plan seems like a really poor decision at this point. It’s fine to swing for the fences, but maybe don’t make it an all-or-nothing approach?

Good lord. This Rona virus has really hurt us. I felt so confident prior to all of this. Now it just seems like we're on a roller coaster. One minute it seems we're getting a little bit of good news and the next we're screaming down a hill. Lately it seems we're going down a hell of alot more than going up. Shipley just seems to me from what I read like such an ND kid. Hopefully we can get things back on track and get some forward momentum.

Buchner is the only individual loss I would say kills the class. However, losing out on Shipley is a nut punch, especially when it seems like this god dam virus had a material impact.

The only thing I can say is if he was this shaky in his commitment, stay after him. A lot can change in 6 months maybe the panic over the virus dies down and he rethinks his decision.

He should learn to follow the best QB. ND's QB has that it factor - you need to know a good thing when you see it.

Good thing that Clemson has a poor track regarding QBs lately. Former first round draft pick in Watson, future first round draft pick in Lawrence, 2019 #4 ranked QB & 4* recruit Taisun Phommachanh, 2020 #1 ranked QB & 5* recruit DJ Uiagalelei.

BK can point to his track record with QBs and use it to sway Shipley.

Clemson’s incoming Frosh QB is legit. He would be the starter as a true Frosh if Lawrence wasn’t coming back.

To me the biggest selling point would’ve been Taylor and his track record with RBs at Stanford.

Who are the next few players on ND's running back board? Do they get Trevor Speights and wait til next year to offer another rb?

Donovan Edwards then I'm not sure. They will need to evaluate. I wouldn't mind Corey Kiner getting reached out to. They will likely pursue Speights too but he is shorter term. Definitely a RB in this class even if Speights joined ND.

I do not believe ND is really a player for Edwards. Kiner seems to be split bw Michigan and Cincinnati (local school).

Probably need to land more than one RB every 2 years.

Not sure that Trevor Speights can be counted on to add a lot of value. 3.7 yards per carry average and did not play his senior year.

To be fair, Speights was injured his senior year. Also, injured his freshman year. Overall, I agree ND cannot count on him directly and should not because they may only have him one year if at all. He is a nice RB2 potential for this class.
